Thanks Alan, It's just that I've noticed that it's FCC approved with no CE mark.

Never seen one before either, but found manual online and it says AM 26.965 to 27.405 MHz, so yes mid block. Not sure how many use AM on there now over here, but good for checking out the superbowl.

Thank you Alan and SangueG for your replies, very much appreciated. Hi Alan, Just a newbie looking for something to get started. Would like something that's going to be mobile or home-based, and generally to tune into most legal frequencies (UK legal). I have been looking at the President McKinley, that seems to be a very popular radio. It's a bit more money than the Uniden but looking at what the McKinley offers it's more future proof in respect to my progression. That's what I'm thinking but do you think it's a bit too advanced for a beginner?

Seen many going for the McKinley sounds to be a good choice for a basic radio. But do you want to get contacts over the water ???. If you do then you might want a radio with ssb capability just a thought.

Cheers Alan, Getting over the pond would be awesome, would have to ask the wife if she needs a new washing line pole (big enough antenna to do this). Think I've read somewhere that the new (2019 EU model) McKinley is SSB but I may not have got this right. Is the SSB on AM or FM or both? Sorry for the newbie questions.

SSB is neither!
It is half of an AM signal, with suppressed carrier. The USB or LSB dictates which half of the signal is kept.

Thank you 43CT016 , hopefully going to get a radio soon and as Alan mentioned SSB capability would be an advantage.
