Subject: simple 11m transient garden antenna Sat Jan 21, 2023 10:06 am
Hi all. I’m a mobile DX’er 99% of the time, but I’m finding myself unoccupied in the harsh winter weather (Like today). I live in a valley so a true homebase setup is unworkable. Im looking for some advice on a transient CB/11m antenna for my back garden. It’s got to be covert. I was thinking like a horizontal (clothes line) type of antenna. Installed in the winter months and removed for the warmer months. Even if its for RX rather than TX! We dont use the garden in the winter months, so it doesnt matter if its impractical in the garden. Im usually on 11m SSB. My garden is long and narrow’ish. Not higher for the aid of my neighbours sake.I dont want to DIY it but just buy something good quality and ready made. I hope this makes sense? Many thanks from Rob in advance.

Hi Rob,
The obvious choice is an 11 meter band wire dipole. They're available to buy all over the internet.
73's Gary.

I know you said horizontal but what about making yourself a T2lt with a telescopic pole. You could also take it out and about with you and easy to make for not a lot.

I'd still go for a T2LT, it's a good suggestion. Can be made fairly easily or bought ready made for under £30. You can use it any angle you want. I know the traditional way is vertical, but it is effectively only a centre fed dipole even though it's physically fed at the end. They work great for skip horizontal. If you check THIS THREAD you'll see where I managed to work over just one weekend with one slung up diagonal as sloper.
Alternatively do a net search for 'end fed half wave wire antennas'. There's loads for sale for 10/11m. Just a 5m piece of wire with a little transformer box. Might be slightly more invisible than a T2LT.

Lee Sheil,
Please remember that Charlie Tango is a community of radio enthusiasts who are real people coming together and doing their very best to assist each other in their radio pursuits.
There is no need to address individuals even in an overall context as 'perpetrators' which only serves to dehumanise others. There has been no criminal, violent or harmful act committed to warrant such phrasing.
Quite often there are a multitude of choices available to provide a solution to a particular problem with antennas being such an example. In many cases a different solution can present itself from first thought and is up to the individual to choose which solution best fits their needs.
Your own suggestion of utilising a dipole to the OP (original poster - RobChap) is no less valid than the same suggestion originally made by Gary Wilson at the very start of this posting.
However, as you have stated mention has been previously made by admin staff regarding posting links to specific suppliers and or manufacturers. Posting the same web address as before but utilising a different method is still just as unacceptable especially when there are so many solutions and suppliers available for anyone searching.
Let's just all keep this civil and community spirited as we possibly can.
