NEW RADIO CHOICE ?

Hi chaps, I am thinking about getting a new CRT SS6900N I know it may be illegal and need advice on that please.

I need to move on from bog standard CB cos there is nobody there

I would say "yes get a 6900 with 11 metres opened up".
Just don't transmit on ham bands .
You are allowed to listen though

Thanks, I don't know what the ham bands are ?  I am new to this from the old days of CB.

You might notice for instance 27.555mhz, channel 12, high band USB, international calling frequency states as not legal in uk

Ahh got ya, I have looked at Fred, that is where I got the info for the CRT SS6900N, I have got the list of CB channels but don't want to upset the Ham bands   
One other thing I have not set up my Antenna properly yet, I am aiming for the scaff pole in the garden about 18 feet high, I have a 5/8 wave Firestick from the USA, I hope the Scaff pole will be a good ground plane I can drive a 1/2 inch 5 foot piece of studing into the ground, Do you think that will be enough ???

I bought a ss6900 2 years ago and had a headache understanding this modern menu system. Once I got the hang of it the radio worked great, the only problem I had was 7 to 8 S points of noise most of the time so distant copies were a problem.

Got it working now in my Man Cave, Only one problem is not enough power I only have the NAVADA PSW O4 power supply at 3amps 5amp surge.
Need at least 30amps to Tx  
Still can listen I suppose for now.
Btw My only brain cell is on charge for now, to get to grips with the manual

You don't need a 30amp supply for that radio but it's probably the best bet for future proofing, ie. for a hf radio.
You can always turn down the RF Power to 5 watts or so, If I remember correctly the 6900n is adjustable from 2-40W on FM

You don’t ‘need’ anywhere near 30amp psu for that transceiver. 12-15amp will be enough.

Although tonyvic makes a good point, I'd go 15 amp but only if I could get one really cheap. Otherwise might be worth getting a 30 amp if there's not much difference in price.

Bernie, I suggested a 30W psu on the basis of my journey in the last 2 years after being away from radio for 20+ years.
I purchased a 15A psu for the ss6900 which was fine but the radio was picking up too much noise. So just over a year later I upgraded to a HF radio which drew up to 22amps so then had to get a 30amp psu.

Before get my cb was using a tecsun pl990 for just catches & could hear around 29925 unknown language, 29920 khz Chinese radio broadcast, not sure if was harmonics from SW or actual HF use...also maybe try (just receiving) some Japanese cb freqs mentioned at above link

NOPE, Windows XP has expired so back to square one

Windows 10 free download then ebay for a key around £20.
Worth investigating.

You can use Windows 10 without activation, you just can't change some things like wallpaper. If you post it back to me, I can put it on a memory stick for you and pick it up tomorrow.
