Hi, I'm returning to CB after a long absence, (late '70s), and as I'm an old git (74) I've forgotten most of what I knew. I have an Anytone Ares 2 and because of the Housing Association rules, I'm not allowed to put up an antenna or a pole. I was thinking of going stealth by attaching an EFHW vertical wire tuned to 27 Mhz to the back of a fall pipe... gutter height only, in order to hide it. My question may sound daft to some, but, Will the vertical EFHW perform ok, or not at all? The EFHW seems to be the ONLY option for me other than a mobile antenna inside the ground-floor flat ... on a biscuit tin !!! Thanks in advance to anyone who can solve my dilemma.

Hi Patrick,
You could try a T2LT or an EFHW as long as the fall pipe is non metallic. I would say you'd get reasonable performance. Forget the mobile antenna on a biscuit tin indoors it's no longer adequate anymore because stations are far more dispersed than the 70's & 80's.
Best of luck 73's Gary.

Thanks so much, Gary. I had considered making a T2LT, but I'll try the EFHW first.I'll be on the air tomorrow 73's from CT 4837 (Pat)

If you've got room in a loft or attic you could do an inexpensive home brew quarter wave inverted V dipole as well which in my opinion would work much better than an end fed where you're going to then need a balun. If you go end fed you're also likely to need a counterpoise as well, hence it pretty much becomes a dipole. You'll need about 20 feet from end to end on 27 MHz (with the center dipole isolator in the middle) to give you a bit of breathing room left over to fit an inverted V in the space, or maybe you could get away with a stealth setup outside, AND no balun needed. If you bend the elements down around 45 degrees you will end up with a 50 ohm input impedance. Inverted V's do surprisingly well.

Hi Marc, Thanks for your comment. Unfortunately, I don't have access to a loft (ground floor flat) so it's got to be a vertical stealthy type antenna, but thanks for the information. I may now go for a vertical T2LT on the plastic fall pipe ...
