I have a mobile antenna on a magmount, it is a true, American 5/8 wave 5 foot Firestick, I know it is not True 5/8 wave so dont do it. bla bla. I would like to now what would be a great choice for a good wip to go on a magmount that is tried and tested, I dont want to ask a shop because they will recomend any stock items they cant shift on to the punters . I origanly bought a Firestick because I had one on my Truck in the 80s and it was great, but now I realise its Carp for distance stuff.
OK on the contenent in the 80s with distance on FM but not here, not now

I use to be a mobile dxer in the late 80's early 90's and in my car I had a set up of a Cobra 148 GTL DX with a Cherokee half breed on a gutter mount for normal road use then when parked up in my favourite spot for dxing which was nice n quite, I would swap it for the Original 7' Fire stick which worked well, and I wasn't up on high ground either, did have a spare battery behind drivers seat for the little bit of help from a Zetagi B300p if and when needed, I had contacts in USA, Brazil a lot and even reached Australia a few times when conditions aloud.
as for a good antenna(whip) I expect someone will be along to recommend. A lot people are saying sirio 4000/5000 are good but I can't say because I've not used one.

I use a Sirio 4000.
Good for 70 MPH plus on the motorway and takes hits from low hanging trees.
If my memory serves me right, a CT member did a comparison between the 4000 & 5000 and found that there was next to no difference except the price.

Thanks again, I don't plan Thrashing down a motorway with it on the roof I will only use it when parked up. But very handy to know if I forget to remove it! very possible at my age . Anyway the price difference is no big deal here just hope it lasts a long time.
