Hi guys, fairly new to amateur bands and equipment, anyway, I have a new Retevis t95 lying in the cupboard that I want to use.
Can I just use this simplex or do I need to get all the 2m/70cm repeaters from the repeater list programmed in?
I am looking to get into CB again mainly but I may as well have a play around with stuff I already have. I bought the Retevis just after passing my foundation but in hindsight, I should have waited and kept the money towards the 10/11/12m radio that I aim to get. Very Happy

Cheers

Tam

You can use it simplex and/or with repeaters. Rather than putting in the lot you could just program in your local repeaters and you can do that from the front panel.

Hi Tam,

Conor, (Northern Crusader) has pointed you in the right direction regards programming, you don't need all the leads/software or such and can program it directly from the front panel. You don't need all the repeaters programmed in either and can just program the ones you want whether near you or on any travels.

Worth a search for any tutorial videos on how to do this. (There are a few.)

The nearest repeaters to you are :-

GB3KE - 2m - https://ukrepeater.net/my_repeater.php?id=2366

GB3KW - 70cm - https://ukrepeater.net/my_repeater.php?id=2798

GB3GL - 70cm - https://ukrepeater.net/my_repeater.php?id=3037

Click on any of the above links to get to the RSGB UK Repeaters site for the details/frequencies.

You can also programme some simplex frequencies in such as 145.500MHz (the 2m simplex calling channel) and might be worth popping in a few more of those channels so you can QSY off the calling channel. 2m activity can be quiet in areas but others bristling with regular nets so worth a go.

Worth having a play to see what activity is like in your area and although repeater work is not everyone's cup of tea it's worth a bash as you just never know....you might enjoy it. Retevis t95 1f44d

(It does at least get you on air and start using your licence privileges.)

Remember, have fun and enjoy yourself.

All the best,
Victor

Thank you mate, that clears it up! I have been looking too deep into it and thought I had to program all the repeaters in. If i'm on my travels then I would input the repeater details of where I am? Cheers Very Happy
