Subject: President George 11. Tue Dec 19, 2023 10:07 am
I have just bought a brand new President George 11 expanded and just asking if anyone else is using one, i have found with mine that the case gets hot when transmitting, i am running a 30 amp psu and the antenna is a half wave silver rod and with no amplifier swr is 1.1 the needle hardly moves on the swr meter. Has anyone else got the same thing regarding the case getting hot while transmitting?.

Export version will get hotter due to the increased power output. (Especially on FM.) Some turn the power down and run a set of linears instead which obviously keeps the rig much cooler.

The case gets VERY hot when running full power (35w).
Even at lower power it can get rather warm.
Nothing to worry about, it's designed to operate like that.

Hello Delboy, thanks for your post regarding the case heat i have put a cooling fan under the George 11 and that seems to be keeping the case a lot cooler. Best 73s and good Dx.

How do you like it so far? Good reports on all modes?

I have not had a great deal of time to test all the modes out as yet, but i did try it on full power ukfm and worked a station in blackburn lancs and he gave me a report s9 r5, and on usb band b i worked a station in millom also with good reports. I will make further tests on ssb when conditions are more favourable, but the george is nice and clear on receive and is a good looking radio. I have upgraded the microphone and i am using the astatic road devil. Best 73s and good DX.

Many thanks for the comeback Offsprey! It is a good looking radio which has already gathered many very good reviews. The Astatic mic is a good idea. I’m currently using a D104-M6B dynamic mic with a modified 6 pin plug on my Ranger and loving its punch; very useful when dxing on ssb. 73s
