Has anyone connected this radio to a laptop with a RT Systems usb 63 cable?
I have spent many hours trying out other cheaper cables and they have all been returned but I am assured that is cable will work! So, I would be very interested to know if anyone has succeeded with this setup particularly with js8.

Has anyone connected a Kenwood TS-570 to a laptop with a RT Systems usb 63 cable? CAT with RT's software and audio using other software (JS8?) with one RS232/USB cable. I have spent many hours trying out other cheaper cables and they have all failed and been returned but I am assured that this cable will work! So, I would be very interested to know if anyone has succeeded with this setup on this radio and particularly with JS8.

Hi Stormy, i have not tried the cable, there is many videos on youtube that show how to correctly do thing's so you have no problems and correct cable that work's, might be wise to give them a check and see if there is something you might have missed,

Hi Ian,
I've merged your questions to prevent cross posting as per the forum rules.
I remember only too well the frustration with trying to set up CAT control for my old Yaesu FT757 and failed miserably. In the end I used to dial the frequencies in manually (then set to memory) and relied on a homemade audio interface along with VOX control to get it all going.
I hope you get sorted or someone can help you out.
All the best, Victor

Goshy, Victor Thanks for the replies. Up to a month ago I had a very old TS-440 which I bought from French Ebay about 9 years ago and it has never missed a beat! For digital I bought a CAT/usb cable from RadioArena in Scotland and it worked from first plugin until the 440 failed and I found that that cable would not work with the 570, hence my search! I bought several cables via Amazon but none of them worked.
I mostly use JS8 as it allows 11m (only 2E0 so no good in Europe). There is plenty going on these days and I have had many good DXs, a lot with Asia Pacific area.
I bought the TS-570dg from RadioWorld and so far so good except for digital which is a good backup for bad SSB days and I really would like it back. So there we are, I have a RT Systems USB-63 on order and if it works I will post here as it might help someone. fingers crossed!

Hi Victor, just a quick follow up to my post above.
I duly received the RT cable and quickly found that it does work for CAT but does not carry any audio ie RX/TX so how do I get my TX into the radio? This subject is all over the internet Groups and after much reading I found that the only easy (cheap!) way of doing it was to connect the front headphone socket to the 3.5mm port in the laptop and this worked a treat. The TX however has to go via my normal mic (studio) and I thought this would be very iffy with no direct cabling and the mic picking up the laptop sound, BUT it does work well with the CAT triggering the radio TX.
So, I have JS8 working well and I'm amazed really even though the setup is not how I thought it would be as the old TS-440 had just one usb/acc2 connection, very simple.
All the best 14ct007 73 Ian

It may have something to do with the now old PL2300+ driver. Most data cables (cheaper ones) rely on this outdated driver to work. There is a work around but it's actually a headache because Windows will automatically update the driver every time you use it.
The new data cables which of course cost a few quid, the newer cables have the FTID chip in them and work flawlessly with Windows.
It is just a suggestion because I've seen people on the net saying the same that data cables are no longer supported and not working etc.
Just thought it may help.

Hi Michael
Thanks for your reply.
The new CAT cable is RT Systems and not cheap at £30 compared with others but it is ftdi. My old cable for a TS-440 was Prolific and did work ok, not bad for a 40 year old rig! What I was looking for was a replacement for this old acc2/usb cable but I could not find one anywhere and everybody on the net talks about signalink and other bits of kit which are too much dosh for me. But I have a solution and today got 2,34,43,56,116 divs and other EU stns so I'm happy! Thanks for your help on this. 14ct007 73 Ian

Hi Ian,
Great to hear that you got sorted out in the end.
I know what you mean regards commercial solutions (pricey) and hence why I built my own interface on the FT757. My FT450 luckily came with an interface kit but involves two boxes (CAT interface & USB Soundcard) so ties up two of my laptops USB slots with the third used for my wireless keyboard/mouse. I tried a USB 'hub' but it didn't seem to like it.
Glad you're enjoying the rewards for your efforts.
