Hi all,
hoping to make first contact on CB tonight since 1984.
What is the best channel to call on, and what time? I am near Framlingham in Suffolk.

Hi Alan,

Don't be disheartened if you don't make a contact on your first attempt but instead keep going. Ensure you're transmitting too as way too many people have made the mistake of simply listening and that doesn't help if no one is transmitting(!)

You profile shows you have the Thunderpole TX (is that the walkie version?) and a mobile style antenna so are you running that as a mobile setup in a vehicle? If so it might be worth heading uphill towards Saxtead to gain a bit of height or even Saxmundham and the coast to maybe shoot up, down or over the water towards our Continental cousins.

If you're running that little lot from a 'biscuit tin' style setup akin to what we got away with in the 80's you definitely will struggle a bit (a lot) unless there's someone else operating close by. CB operators tend to be much further apart nowadays unless there's a local grouping with the similar interest.

Don't give up though, radio is a lot of fun when you get going but might be worth looking at SSB enabled options in the future if you want further contacts or enjoy a bit of 'skip' for some DX.

I wish you well with it.

73,
Victor

There's a net on ch34 almost every night in Suffolk. Try on there

Glad to hear it Alan. Hopefully I'll catch you on air soon. Just need to get my antenna up. I'm just on the edge of Ipswich so should hear you OK.
