I have always been interested in the “black magic” of radio I think my earliest interest was when I used to observe my grandad replacing RF valves in Bush “wireless” sets that he liked to service as hobby and I wanted to know how it worked!!!
Played with CB in the early 80’s when it was in its infancy in the UK, and just legalised.
Joined the Army, The Corp of Royal Signals in 1986 as a telecomm.operator radio. Engineered and operated HF/VHF and satcomm. radio nets.
Currently employed as a IT/Telco. Manager
I am currently operating out of my airing cupboard in a semi stealth mode.. This was the only room that my wife allowed me to use !!! mainly on the 40 - 6m bands.
My current HF rig is a Yaesu FT-DX 1200 with a MD-100 microphone, I also have an Yaesu FT 450D rig that is currently being used as a conservatory rig!!! . Backup rig is a Alinco DX70 . My antennas are a G5RV junior dipole with 80m trap extension legs, 40m OFCD and a HF fiberglass Moonracker vertical, The dipoles are in inverted V'S over the roof of my house. Since the advent of COVID I am now a home worker so the shack is now the office. I am maining running on digital modes mainly on FT8 and JT65HF , PSK31 and WSPR.
