Subject: Vertical coaxial dipole for 11m Wed Oct 09, 2024 2:03 pm
I've been using an end fed vertical coaxial dipole on 10m for DX and it has been very successful. In fact, it performs better than I ever expected it to. Very low noise and low radiation pattern.
It occurred to me that the simple to build coaxial dipole might be a useful (and cheap to build) antenna for 11m, so I've transposed the measurements for 27.555mhz.
It can be attached to a fibreglass pole, hung in a tree, or even hung upside down from an upper storey window.
All you need to build this antenna is a few metres of coax and a piece of 68mm plastic pipe. Plus two cable ties or some duct tape.
This antenna is fairly wide band so should tune okay for the EU frequencies and UK FM.
Tip - make the top (driven) element a few mm longer for tuning.

Thanks for this Deb,
I have used a T2LT for 10 and 11 meters for years. My findings concur with yours 100% I've had some great contacts with it. Easy to deploy and take down again if needed and for the price of making it you can't go wrong. I have found that although being a fairly forgiving antenna mine performs best on my large 10 meter fiberglass mast.
What's not to love?
Best 73 Gary.

Hi Gary.
Mine is attached to a 12m telescopic fibreglass pole with the pole passing through the choke.
For the price of a few metres of coax and a 12m pole it's a no-brainer.
I think my contacts in the 2024 10m challenge prove the performance.

I tried this originally but the antenna is still 18 foot long and proved difficult to get it out of the side of the balcony, because my balcony is enclosed with a roof that over laps the front, it can't go straight I do however have a solution but with the antenna being so long it makes it difficult... its about the same as trying to get it out of a window, my balcony is pretty much a wide window.
Good antenna tho I wish I lived somewhere that was more radio friendly.
