How to become part of the CTX Team

First up, everyone is welcome to participate in this CT eXtreme section of the CT site - we welcome interaction Smile

To become an CT eXtreme Team member and be able to use a CTX callsign is not easy though - in fact, deliberately so, as we need to ensure any activities are carried out is as safe and responsible manner as possible and push the boundaries of the hobby.

At the end of the day, there are no hard and fast rules to what we'd consider suitable as an eXtreme Team event or activation but the radio equipment should be self-powered. No mains or vehicle nearby to power it, a good hike away from your vehicle around 30 minutes or more. Of course an activation while on a bicycle is permitted. If an any doubt what makes a CTX activation, just ask.
At least 1 CTX activation per year along with either video or picture evidence .

So, to become a CT eXtreme Team Member and get a CTX callsign:

Step One: If you haven't already, join up with the CT Group and request a CT Callsign.

Step Two: Decide whether it's for you - understandably, it's not everyone's cup of tea and we don't wish to take anything away from homebase, mobile or static mobile operators, as this is just another method of operation.

Step Three: Think of something you'd like to have a go at and do some research.

Step Four: Contact the eXtreme Team staff and let us know roughly you're thinking of doing.

Step Five: If we're into it, make some firm plans. Show us you're prepared, put some potential dates to it, assess the risks, take steps to minimise them, and forward the plans to us. If it's good to go, we'll promote your event or activation as a "CT eXtreme" one and set you up as a "Provisional Member".

Step Six: When you've completed the first activity successfully, you'll be given "Full Member" status and be allowed to use "CTX", with your current CT unit number, for your future CT eXtreme activities

Step Seven: Keep it going - the more effort you put into it, the more you'll get out of it! Let us know what you're planning and we'll do our best to promote it.

73, The CTX Team.

so - dartmoor - devon - a very large kite and a lot of wire  - not tried it on cb frequencies before  - but it works damn well on 18 mhz  !! - 6000 miles - south africa - 5 w  ..........

got to wait till my oppo is available / weather is right as you need JUST  the right amount of wind for the 3 meter kite - which will lift to 60 m no problem - this is max hight agl unless CAA  autherisation sought

risk assesments - well we go to a remote spot  - and only fly when its safe - there are no people about  or livestock - cows seem to have a thing about kites   !!  - AND  of course  the antenna/s are DC  blead  to ground - this HAS  to be done right or its bye bye finals or worse !!  - when you feel the air crackling or see sparks its time to bale PDQ !!  - learned the hard way btw !!

so extreme enough ?? - let me know and as soon as we can /health ok / friend available - its on as we both want to try it  - and we have not been out with the kites for a while - they need an airing !!

let me know - it will prob be a weekend - usually sunday  - or over the long PJ  bank holiday ??

oh and if theres no wind - there are always the 6 ft diam baloons ................. but thats a bit more involved .lol

regards  26ct333  ( mad hatters qrp group - chief hatter )   scratch

( photos a well deserved cuppa  and the mid size kite at 60 m in the fog pre covid  - the big kite is a lot bigger btw and takes some handling / securing to the car  - its a beast ) How to become a CTX team member. Img_2410

Very nice, I have a very similar kite, mine is 4 Square metres and needs 500lb bs line. Was very into kiting in all forms. Never used it for lifting an antenna, but often considered it Smile
