Performance wise I doubt you'd notice much difference. Usually when you find someone has swapped something for a Gainmaster and seen a big improvement they forget to include that when they decided to put the Gainmaster up they also used the opportunity to upgrade to a longer pole or use better coax etc which were more likely to be the reason for the improvement. For those who've basically unplugged one, taken it off the pole, replaced with Gainmaster and plugged back in they've noticed very little improvement if any.
Antron A99 has better survivability in high wind. If you do go for the A99 don't waste your money on the FireUp replacement top section.

Thanks for your reply. I have a 1/4 wave signal keeper at the moment and I don't like it. I think the A99 is the one to go for then for me Just hope the conditions improve soon

I second the Moxon if you're serious for DX. They're dead easy to make up yourself and there's a load of calculators on the net. Only thing to beware of as I forgot is unless they ask the calculators assume bare wire and if you use insulated it appears around 4% longer electrically to RF so if you can't tune it and built it using insulated wire that may be why and you need to shorten the elements. You can do this by folding the wire back on itself rather than cutting.

I had the a99 and now have the SGM and nothing between them regards performance, both will withstand the wind if mounted properly with plenty of flex in the mounting pole, the SGM does have a wider bandwidth and will 10-12m with low swr.I use a home brew Moxon and as good rejection and as said above is excellent for DX work when the conditions allow.I am using 14m of rg mini8 to both antennas and do rx and tx well but would consider rg213 for longer runs.

Does anyone treat their antron with anything to help protect the fibreglass ?

I didn't treat my Imax 2000 and it's now maybe 15 years old. It hasn't split but there are some fine splinters that get into your skin if you handle it. Marine varnish seems to be widely recommended.
