What Vintage Radio Equipment are You Using?

I had the Tristar 777, (same radio), and remember programming the expansion EEPROM by hand with a "Bit-Blaster"!
(The Screwdrivers Expert PLL book explained it all, anyone remember that?)

Still trying to clear my dribble up from Craig's Stalker IX FDX
God I always wanted one of those!

No pics of my CB......not technically a CB but does transmit on CB frequencies

The Screwdrivers Expert and the PLL book's and another book i can't remember the title had a lot of helpful information in them.
They where both to hand back some 25 plus years ago when i was doing a lot of repair work.
I think one of them even had the info on adding alphas and fitting the mid block to the straight 40 cybernet board.
My brain has gotten too old now and can't remember what i did yesterday lol.

There was good old info in those books Alan. Think I may even have one of my old PLL books somewhere!
This was all pre-internet days so info like that was pure gold

Most of the old CBs I see nowadays are at ridiculous prices on fleabay, usually "untested" too!

You are lucky to find such treasures, i`ve been going to local boot fairs in the summer months and found absolutely nothing CB related

A great book for a layman like myself to attempt basic repairs.

Hey, hey!! Look at that, with it's memorable cover!

Lou Franklin was a God to CB repair and modification.

Just had horrible recollections of paying through the nose for poor photocopies of CB circuit diagrams and opening rigs that had "never been touched mate" proclamations......with every ferrite core in every coil cracked!!

Yep i had them all.
All went along with the first wife she got a friend to empty my shack he managed to get £250 for her selling the lot.

Similar story to mine Alan, but I was stupid enough to do it twice!

I really like my old school radios.

In my current collection are: Lincoln, Jack (black front), 9fdx (stealth front), six-band Jackson (black front), Uniden 100 (black front), Cobra 148 gtl dx, Superstar 360fm (stealth front). The 9fdx is my favourite.

Stalker 9FDX is a cracking rig , mine has a stelth plate. Need to find a decent rig doctor to send it off tio for a service and tweek .

Already mentioned that I drooled over Stalker 9's, but weirdly I loved that 'tacky' fake wood front on them!
Was common on a lot of 70s and early 80s electronic goods, (most TVs and who can forget the Atari 2600!), yet people loved it. I've heard 'younger' people laugh at the notion until you point out their pretend carbon fibre film wrap on motorbikes/cars/phones/laptops and PC's

I never got the fake legal fronts, didn't think it would fool anyone but maybe I was wrong. I do remember people flogging 27/81 stamps and water decals, (usually at over inflated prices), to adorn their rigs back in the day.

With the rotary clock too! Wonderful! I see fully converted, very nice.

I don't know if it's rose-tinted glasses memory or not but I remember these having beautiful audio, RX and TX. None of that frying pan crackle but a wonderful soft "ssss" that disappeared when even a weak signal came through. Nice soft squelch too, none of that thumping that so many radios do. Perhaps it was just me
An old CB friend, (passed many years), had one in his collection and could always tell when he fired it up as it was his best sounding CB on TX.

But if you got a visit and i did they just turned on there portable freq/counter and flicked all the switches.

9 times out of 10 they didn't even bother checking Alan.

I remember back in the day the <spit-spit> DTI and then RCA didn't check naff all....warrant, court order and they'd take the blooming lot!!
Had quite a few our way lose all their gear in raids even taking your legal rig that sat by your SSB gear!
Glad those days are over.

Thanks, Matey. The Stalkers do look good with the wood fronts too. I know what you mean about the fake carbon. It is the modern version.
