Subject: Red Devil & Mag Mount Ground Question Sat May 23, 2020 11:58 am
I've ordered a Thunderpole Red Devil for my mobile set up with a magmount which has a removable rubber boot to protect paint work. In my opinion, wouldn't the rubber magmount boot affect the performance of the antenna? surely this is making the ground plane ineffective. I'm sure the performance would be poor due to effectively isolating the ground plane?

Mike

Hi Mike,
The antenna is Capacitively coupled to the car. RF works differently to DC so the rubber boot will be fine.

Cheers Gary, bought one of those Nano VNAs off of Amazon, can't believe they are so cheap. Not precision analyzers like the more expensive Anritsu or Rhode & Schwartz Kit but good for checking impedance, insertion loss and SWR

I have one as well Mike, amazing for the 30 quid I paid for it. It certainly seems as good as any of my SWR meters!!!
