Anyone know how to get this function working correctly. I usually monitor 19 + 21. On other radio's i go to 21 push DW and go back to 19 ( push DW on 5555 / 6900 type sets ). On this 7900 DW seems to be stuck on 19 / 9. If i go to 21 and push DW it scans 19 / 9. No matter what channel i go to it always scans 19 / 9 on DW. The book is no use and there is little or no info on the net.

I've not looked into this, but it sounds like its watching the two 'emergency' channels that can be set for each bank in the software. Have you a programming lead?

Hi Paul,
On the 5555, 6900, 9900 the DW is a single command button, on the 7900 it's a DW/+10kHz dual function button....... So long press that should store the channel would now switch to the frequency shift function instead(!)
I think Dave's on the right path, may have to be programmed in via software(?)
I don't own any of those models radios so someone might know better, but that was all I could figure out to help.

Hi Paul,
Dave is correct, the DW function is set via programming, I have not seen any other way to do this yet.
The programming allows you to input details for each band, ie. A through J On each band you are able to determine if the function is ON or OFF at startup as well as which of the channels you would like to use for each band.
The programming option also allows you to perform the same function for the EMG button as well if needed.
I'll have a play later today when I have time and see if I can find an alternative to the programming option.

I've just looked at the software, for each bank you can set the two emergency channels, and the two that are selected for dual watch, which can be different;
There is a way around it though if you dont have programming lead/software
If you press the scan button for 2 secs on a channel it will lock it out of the band scan ( same again to reselect) You could lock out every channel except the ones you are interested in watching (19 and 21 in your case), so that the scan button would then just bandscan your two channels instead of all 40

Thanks guys. I haven't got a cable. Like the other radio's i thought it would just be the same, select the channels and push DW. Using it via the program is a bit awkward if you need to change the channels you're monitoring. Looks like i'm going to invest in a cable then. Thanks again guys. Appreciate it.

Paul,
Had a look at Lunchtime and Dave is correct, it seems you can only set this up via the programmable option.
If you were just interested in setting it up and leave it as is, I have the software and lead.
Cheers

Thanks Graeme. But i first have to work out what computer to use. My one is Windows 10 and from what i believe Microsoft stopped these cables working due to a royalties claim of something along those lines. My mate has a Windows 7 PC but we couldn't get it to read mine or his HR5500. I'll figure something out. Or just do without the DW. Thanks again.

Strange one Paul,
I have Win10 64bit and the Cable and CRT7900 software I purchased with the radio works fine.

Its the cheap no name cables that have issues. Mine is a CRT branded one, bought with the radio from Knights, same as Graeme I'm guessing.

Guys, the cable i had was from Knights and wouldn't work. When i tried it on my mates PC on his HR5500 the cable got very hot and melted. Just a warning to those guys out there. Get the right cable for the right radio. The one i had is labelled CRT 6900. My other mate bought it when he wanted to do things with the radio as he was the previous owner. I might phone Knights and ask if the 7900 cable is labelled as such. What is yours Graeme.
PS: I also have Win 10 64 bit legit software.

Mine says CRT 6900 as it happens. How a USB adaptor can melt baffles me, unless it was plugged into the radio on a wrong connector - it needs quite a bit of power to cause damage like that.

Hi Paul,
Mine is labelled SS7900, the software on CD installs and has a shortcut named SS7900 as well.
Knights are showing the lead and software for £14.95, however, I'll bet the delivery will be around £5
If you would like to try it, your more than welcome to try mine.

It's fine Graeme. I'm a patient man. Dave. All i can think of is the HR5500 has a different feed to the plug. TX RX and the earth in opposite positions. His cable does nothing on my radio either but doesn't heat up. I've programmed plenty of these sets ( at-5555 / 6900 ) and never had any problems, until now.

I have picked up three or four programming cables cheap on Ebay the vendor has a link to the software too, I am far too cheap to pay £22 for a cable when I can get it for under a fiver.
Here is a link to the software page it is worthwhile bookmarking it for future reference.

Thank Alan but i have the software for all the newer radio's on the market. I use this dealer a lot for radio purchase's but he doesn't seem to have the 7900 cable unless you buy it with the radio. My mate has a 6900 cable but it doesn't like either of our PC's.

I had a great deal of trouble with Windows 10, when I looked into the error code it gave me I found others were having the exact same issue and Microsoft deny any responcibility at all.
One of the people supplying the cables/software made mention of this and supplied a driver, when I downloaded the software for my CRT Micron it had a driver and brief instructions due to the Win 10 issue. The driver says it is for Windows 7/8 (I don't have it in front of me right now) but it installed just fine and resolved the communication issue between the radio and Win 10 computer.
I would still be using Win XP SP3 if it were supported/people still did software that was backwards compatible, it was based upon Windows NT Server and was stoically dependable whilst not using to much of the system resources.
I am no fan of Microsoft at all, if I weren't getting it for free I certainly wouldn't go out and pay for it!

I am not very good with programming a radio, so I buy all my radios from the same dealer and, there all programmed , but the 7900 is very user friendly a lot better then the 9900, and I hope you get it sorted and the dealer is knights .

Hi Stephen. I do prefer the 9900 but let it go when i got an HF set. The 7900 is all set up but the DW is all wrong and i need it fixed as i use it a fair bit.
