Hi all, hope you're all well. Can anyone please tell me how to manually unlock/expand the frequencies on the baofeng UV-5RC PLUS to receive /use the PMR frequencies? EG:- What buttons to press and in what sequence. Or point me to a link that explains it. Cheers and thanks in advance. 73's Dale

Hi Glen dog. Perhaps you can give me a link please as I have looked on there with not much luck. There's plenty about how to program in the frequencies, memories and set repeater offsets ect, but I'm struggling to find one on expanding the frequencies. I don't have Internet here at home hence wanting to do it manually, otherwise I could have done it via chirp.
Cheers 73's Dale CT3550

Hi Dale,
When I was first playing with my Intek, (same as the UV5), I scoured the internet for a way of manually unlocking the frequency range......unfortunately I found nothing(!)
In the end I had to program it via chirp. That wasn't so straight forward either and played with several different USB leads until I landed up building my own using a CP2102 USB module....so much for easy
So frustratingly I know, I don't think you can do it manually only via software.
Not much help I'm afraid, but might save you the days of banging your head fruitlessly searching the internet like I did.
All the best, Victor

TBH I have never heard of anyone or any Baofeng having expanded frequencies via pushing buttons, can you clarify what you mean by expanding frequencies because I've had three Baofengs and my mates who are Amateurs also have had and own plenty of them and the only way frequencies you put in to them is the repeaters you require plus the PMR ones and the normal VHF/UHF Amateur bands which you can program via the disc and lead which which comes with some radios or purchase separate or you use the chirp program as Victor said, never heard of secret expansion frequencies like if you was wide banding one of these new style menu run cb radios.

Hi Nubster. My Baofeng only goes up to 440 mhz. when I try to key in a pmr frequency ie 446.093 it beeps error and goes back to the previous one. I've seen the UV-5RC being used on pmr so I thought I'd try it. I don't have Internet access at home otherwise I'd happily try chirp. I'm wanting it for outdoors. On my CRT Micron I watched a video by Simon the wizard on how to expand it, pree a few buttons, turn it off/on and away you go. I thought that maybe I could do the same on the Baofeng. Hope you can help. Cheers 73's Dale

No Dale no Baofengs can do that, you have to program them via a computer ,its strange that you cant press in a PMR frequency has your Baofeng ever been programmed properly or is it still in the Chinese settings from factory if so that's why it's not excepting PMR frequency it really needs to be programmed properly mate

Also Dale be careful and try not to transmit on any of the frequencies while it's still in Chinese factory mode because they are totally illegal in the UK to use they do actually interfere with other radio comms and devices.

It is quite easy to program in the PMR frequencies on the uv5R but remember to delete the frequency that is on the radio first. Explained on Utube. Hope that helps. 16 PMR frequencies available online.
