Hello, local shop has offer the uv-18l for 25 euros ... shop advertise the freqs are 144-146 & 446-446.2 mhz (maybe locked for country use ? ) ... & they also state is walkie talkie ... but at official web site has different freqs 1) will this communicate as it is out of box with my old PMR Binatone from ex-Maplin 446 mhz with out unlocking it? other way is not worth to get it (unless i use/get 2 same units) 2) is still illegal in EU as stating GMRS or seems be just fixed for EU use?
In general anyone knows what is going on with this unit ? Thanks
EDIT - The CEPT band plan is here... https://docdb.cept.org/download/4316

No idea if it's locked or not, but I'd say it's worth the euros just to play with.

Hi, that’s a ham radio it requires a ham licence. It’s illegal to use without a licence in most countries, including all of Europe.

Right, thanks for the info, shop does not mention anything about license...planing sometime soon to apply license, in fact i delay it .. but seeing the the video does not receive good & by time to apply & wait for the test will take some time, i guess will wait for the next offer ... funny that these kind ham radios are so low price & CB handheld are way expensive (edit at least to my country)

Just for clarity, you can RX on anything without a licence but to TX you require one. I speak with regard to the UK where I live but I expect that Europe has similar regulations.
Good luck with your licence studies when you get it I hope to work you on the amateur bands.
Best 73 Gary.

Hi, yes generally HF is most expensive than VHF and this make is especially cheap. They are ok radios and great to start out with or as a backup radio but they are poor quality compared to the major ham radio makes. Gary, yes the rules on the rest of Europe are pretty much the same as the UK.
