Had a lot of French but mostly skipping around in and out around Europe so no firm QSO's as yet. Fingers crossed for a good winter season because the summer skip weren't half bad

I remember my first SSB dx contact it was 1978 in the old illegal days there was no T5 (27:555) calling channel then it was just pic a random frequency and just call I was using a old Stalker 9 sitting in my bedroom on a Saturday morning calling out when suddenly I got a reply from a station in Sicily sh*t the life out of me when I heard him lol , I've done loads much better over the years on radio , but funny you always remember ya first DX copy.

They are great radios, Martin. I still use my Stalker 9fdx regularly, it has the stealth front on it. The receive on ssb is a joy to listen to. Doesn't drift on frquency either.

I know John I miss that radio, believe it or not I swopped it and a SWR/PWR meter for a Colt Excalibur with a mate of mine, back then Stalkers where plenty about so it didn't bother me but I wish I had it now TBH I wish I had both really most probably worth something now lol.

And don't forget the plank with the music and coca cola. They must sit day after day waiting for a lift.

Perhaps they were tuning up the old 2kw linears!
You do often hear the old, "Ow-dee-oh, Ow-dee-oh, *whistle*", sometimes over someone else's QSO! Don't think they've heard of 'silent tuning'

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, Martin. Lol. I have done the same thing with cars. I look at what Escort RS Turbos are going for these days and it makes me want to cry.
