When I got my last motor (a Mitsubishi Shogun Sport) I said to the farmer's wife (where our caravan usually is) "I've just got a Chelsea tractor" She said "I've never seen a tractor like that" My reply "How many Massey Fergusons have you seen in Chelsea?"

I have a question about calling frequencies. I live near the West coast of Ireland, and my antenna points directly to London. I wonder could someone give me a list of CB calling or listening frequencies for members or groups on the East coast of England. I hope to be able to make a contact over there when the skip returns. I'm encouraged by all the stations I could hear in Normandy, Brittany and in the Netherlands, so I reckon I have a good chance of a contact in the East of the UK when the skip is right again. Max.

TBH Max there is no specific call frequencies in to London apart from the main one that everyone uses the 19 on UKFM, as for club frequencies on the South East Coast I haven't heard of any clubs for a very long time and the most are now defunct, actually I only know of two main radio club/forums now in the UK that's this one CT and Transmission 1, apart from keeping a eye on here for networks in the southeast or east coast, as for London and surrounding areas everyday at 4pm on 27:305 (CHANNEL 30 mids) USB the a little informal chit chat style network, plus on UK40FM sometimes theres a another informal network on CHANNEL 35 but a different times of the day and night there is no set time on that one just listen and see if anyone is on , and there is always the freebanding main calling frequency 27:555USB monitor that and you can all as you know, but TBH Max the conditions are crap ATM perhaps if it does pick really well there might be some new networks popping up until then if it happens that's all I can tell you mate.

Thanks for that, Martin. There are a couple of frequencies there that I can monitor. Listening on the 555 today, and there isn't a peep out of Europe or anywhere else for that matter - really crap as you say. I made my very first contact since the 1970s over 33 miles a couple of days ago with the ground-wave on the trusty FT-7B at 100W PEP. It was a good start using my new mag loop. Cheers, Max.
PS: Looks like Boris is about to announce a very strict lockdown over there.

I think southern Italy is drifting in to middle Europe currently. Edit: that sounds a bit odd, let me rephrase...

I was beginning to think my hf multiband aerial was totally deaf on the 11m band. But i had a natter with a m8 who was mobile just as a test and i was surprised how far away he got before i started to lose him very surprised so it is the band that is silent and not my aerial that's deaf lol.

I've been saying it for couple years or so about the bands being dead Alan ,infact I've been saying CB in itself is slowly dying out well the popularity of actually using the radio and its now talking on a forum or just joing them, and I was ripped to threads by some on here on this actul forum saying I was trying turn new members off CB and I a downer of CB radio, but I always asked them "what new contacts have you made? without arraignment ie: your same old weekly network" I never got a straight answer it was always "networks networks" being quoted by them , it was they couldn't except that infact all over the world CB is not like it was and the radio conditions are now really crap now and there is too much other communication stuff about that's far superior and other electrical stuff that interfering with it and the majority of anyone under the age of 25 have never heard or seen a CB and the people who have heard of them only know about them through films ie:Convoy , Smokey and the Bandit type film which they dont take seriously and they think the normal CBer is like the people in the films a joke, so your antenna is definitely not deaf mate it's just CB it not that popular anymore and TBH I dont think we will have these so called great conditions back and if they do it will be too late , please dont think I'm being a downer on radio everyone cos I'm not far from it ,but to those who I siad it will be totally dead on radio soon i hate say " I bloody told you so"

I know what you are saying. I remember coming in from work turning the cb on (well a Marko Excalibur) and talking to someone mobile in London on the uk FM and i am on Anglesey North Wales it was that good some days. Other days i couldn't use FM as it was so overcrowded round here so ssb we went and that got bad at times trying to find a frequency that was free. Funny thing radio is tho as the 555 is dead but plenty going on on the 20 and 40m bands strange when you think about it it's a radio ??????????. Don't explain as i know just saying it is strange. Fingers crossed the 11m band will come back and save CB.

Same here Alan I use to be able to switch on the radio and it was always alive with people and that was actually right up till about 2016 then suddenly nothing its started to completely die off apart from as I said arranged networks, OK back in the old illegal days of CB in 70s early 80s it was all different the conditions where good no interference like what we have now , but even after it was legalised around 1998/99 era it was brilliant right up to like I said around 2016ish ,I can remember back around 2014 even on UK FM us locals use have a chit chat channel on 34 and sometimes we would get "on the side " so some would bring them in asking who it was and it would be a guy call Donny from the Scottish Islands and as clear as bell then Roy from Corsica would come in on the side ,this is no bull**t, does anyone remember the Olga's, Eastern European taxi operators directing taxis in Eastern Europe and totally wiping out the UKFM, we always knew if we was going to good conditions if we heard them as for SSB the world and its wife was on there lol then suddenly for some reason it all died away and IMHO it cant be totally down to conditions being bad it's got to something else ie: like I said radio CB has lost its allure or its something deeper we dont know about, cos like you said Alan it only couple of Amateur bands alive also.

Lots of weak continental stations on the 555 right now - France, Italy, Germany.
