Hi John,
Are you specifically after Ni-Cd? All of the AA rechargeables I have are now Ni-MH.
If it helps any I use the Panasonic Eneloop's on the whole as they will hold their charge longer when not in use. I charge a whole bunch of them and then they're always ready to go when I need them. They don't seem to care about the cold either holding their charge much longer under such conditions than any other AA's I've ever had. There are the 'pro' versions of the aforementioned but I never found the extra capacity that useful, plus they're more expensive and you can't seem to recharge them as many times.
Otherwise I use the cheaper Energizer's, I have a whole bunch of them too. They suffer more in the cold than the above losing their charge in storage but are cheap and plentiful.
I much prefer the 'simpler' approach to rechargeable batteries.....some like to technical 'hoo-hah' about them all
Anyway, hope that helps.
All the best, Victor

Thanks for your words Victor, the only reason i ask regarding ni-cd`s is they are "strongly recommended" with the use of an albrecht 201, i have tried duracel ni-mh in the past and they discharge very quickly, i shall bare in mind your recommendation.
all the best
John

No worries John.
I know in the past Ni-Cd's were recommended due to the fact that only zinc-carbon/alkaline were the alternative but Ni-MH can provide the same and often better current carrying ability. Perhaps those words of caution are associated with a particular charger for that radio? (I charge my batteries in separate chargers suitable for them.) But I have to admit that I had also tried the Duracell rechargeables and was left thoroughly disappointed with their performance.
I love the Eneloops due to the fact that I often 'forget' to charge batteries and they hold their charge well in storage or if unused. I use them for most of my radio gear and also high demand equipment like photo-flashes.
Anyway, I hope you get sorted. Who'd have thought simple AA batteries could be such a faff
All the best mate, Victor
