Heading to the hills tomorrow morning with my new to me Antron 99. I have got a 5ft pole to mount it on and plan to strap it to a fence post, so not sure how well it will work in the hills of North Wales, but I'll give it a bash. Only operating on UK FM at the moment until next month when I'm getting a CRT6900N.

Hi Andy,
Have a good trip and enjoy the experience of some hill top radio.
I hope you get some good radio contacts but don't despair if you don't, you can chalk it all up to experience. You get to visit a beautiful part of the UK plus gain some knowledge in lugging around and setting up an antenna in the field so to speak.
As a radio enthusiast who could ask for more.
Besides, the experience will come in handy for when your side-bander arrives and you plan your next trip.
All the best, Victor

Had mixed results, where i was going to mount the a99 was about 5ft too far for the coax to reach so had to mount it on a gate post right by a power line and a huge tree, couldn't reach my home 20 Liverpool, but did get a guy 60 miles away in Hyde.

Glad you had a good outing Andy.
I can only reiterate the safety stand points by so many others of the dangers associated with placing antennas near power lines. I'd rather lose one transmission day than the rest I could ever have. (Far too many fisherman with carbon poles and radio enthusiasts with antennas have 'death by misadventure/electrocution' on their final record.)
So always take care my friend.
That said, well done with your 60 mile contact! That's a good transmission if any.
All the best, Victor

Yes I was very careful when I lifted it as to keep it well away from the cable.

I'm heading there again in a week or so, this time with the extra coax and a small burner
