Hi all,
Decided after some time to go mobile with the only radio I have now for 11M , a Magnum 257. The ML-145 I have is too tall on my new small car (Nissan Note) I was thinking of reverting back to "The Old Days" When I had 2 co-Phased Firestiks on my Truck? I can get hold of a 3 ft T Stick (new type firestik) from Lymm Truck Stop, I would only eMobile on 555 or 26Mhz ssb, would this be too much of a compromise ??
Also I will be using a MagMount in the centre of the roof
Best I can do I think???
Thanks

Co-phased need to be quite far apart wider than a car to work properly. I use the same ML-145 on my BMW X5 and it just twang's a bit in car parks but never lifts the mag-mount lol. Plus people hear me coming and walk at the side where they should walk.

Thanks Alan, Yes I was only saying the Firestiks co-phased worked on my truck they were on each side mirror mount. , I was only gonna have one on my Car a 3 ft one.
Your X5 is a lot bulkier than my Note and the whip on the ML-145 is an eyesore on the Note. a 3 foot antenna looks ok as I have tried a 144MhZ antenna on it? I am thinking the Firestik being Helical and top loaded might be the only compromise???
Cheers

I must admit it does stand out a bit. Not often i drive round with it on the car but i have forgot it was on many times but got a reminder in Tesco car park lol. I had the 7ft firestick on a gutter mount back in the early 80s what a sight it must have been lol big red stick with the white cap being some 11ft or so in the air driving along but it worked well.

Ye, memories of the old days seem to have come back lately, I have a Full Amateur Radio License, but have become disillusioned with it all. So after a long term illness, I am getting back into being able to drive (so long as I keep taking the tablets:lol:) so going back to my youth and sod Busby;).
Cheers

A 3ft antenna isn't going to have much range for local contacts, a few miles or so. Success on DX depends entirely on propogation as when it's rocking you can even DX on a dummy load. You're going to be a couple of S points down on a 6ft antenna.
Nothing to stop you using a 3ft one for mobile then screwing in a 6ft one when static.

Get yerself a tank whip from Thunderpole. 9ft in length, totally ridiculous and impractical on my magmount. Works a treat static though and only £20 for a full quarter wave.
