| Hello et All
Looking at setting up a small boat to boat PMR net for the kids to use when sailing (outside of UK waters) do not want then on the Marine VHF and dropping a £8-15 PMR HH over the side is less of an issue.
But I like to play so picked up a CRT Space U for "testing" and now looking at antennas but not sure what to select?
Dual bands seem common. Sirio HP 2070 H
but is a single band any better Sirio HP 7000 C Sirio SU 375-480PL
and just for my knowledge how does a 2 x 5/8 λ collinear compare to a 1/4 λ + 1/2λ collinear...
Any assistance or knowledge gratefully received.
Thanks Giles | |

| Hi Giles, I would have thought in this order.
1, 2 x 5/8
2, 1/2
3, 1/4
Bare in mind on the water there is little if anything in the signal path so I would have thought a simple 1/4 wave would work just fine and be the cheapest. I can open repeaters 20/30 miles away on 70cm with enough height with my 2/70 handy. The other consideration is the Kids handy's will will only have 1/4 ish wave antennas anyway so that could be the limiting factor in itself.
73's Gary. | |

| Well in the end I went for a SIRIO HP 7000 C it a mono band 2 x 5/8 I picked up the USA version that in theory is tuned for 439-451 (possible a better match for PMR freq than the standard 429-440)
https://www.crtfrance.com/en/pl-system/845-hp-7000-c-high-gain-sirio.html
It has worked well so far. | |
