| Hi Guys,
Are there any Nets around the East midlands, Northants, Leicestershire, Beds, Bucks. If Not anyone interested in one ? I would be interested in starting one if there are enough people interested as I think a lot of people in this area are silent enthusiast because of the amount of people on air in this area. Just throwing it out there for your thoughts !

Hiya,, Will be on Wednesday 7.30pm 27.225 USB for the first time since the original Mids Net folded. Not sure what the demand will be but hopefully over time it will grow. Will be looking for hosts who can do mobile in other areas around the midlands. I'm not sure if ill hear you from Mansfield but ill certainly be listening. Thanks for the interest ! 73's Mick

| Hi Mick, I'm new to the forum and returning to CB after a 30 year break. Just set up my rig and antenna this weekend Seems good, SWR low, power out good, all modes working......just didn't hear anyone?! Called out on the old 14 & 19 both UK and CEPT....not a jot. Not too far away from you so I shall definitely tune in and try and give a shout out on Wednesday. (If anything it'll prove whether or not I've lost the ability to hook up a basic setup!) Look forward to trying. All the best, Victor _________________ Theory means that we know everything, but nothing works. Practice means that everything works, but we don't know why. Hi Victor.. Ok mate that would be good, I would say I will almost definitely be able to hear you or visa versa. Don't get disillusioned there are plenty of people on in your area, and a few Nets run out of Hertfordshire and Luton. Take a look around on here and on the Charlie Tango Facebook page for times & frequencies.. I think channel 14 is pretty much redundant but contacts can be made on channel 19 or you could try the popular SSB calling channel 27.555mhz. 73's Mick | |

Yeah, use to SWL a lot of the nets in recent years so know that people are still out there. Unfortunately sometime in the last couple of years I get some +30 hash around the 555 (Grrr!)
Shall keep persevering, come too far to quit.

| Hi all, a little disappointed with the conditions tonight, despite hearing a few distant calls I couldn't hear above the S7 of static I was getting , no local or distant DX's were made. a few people on the Charlie Tango Facebook page told me they were listening and nothing was heard their end. I am disappointed no local stations to me were on air and hope next time the conditions are a little better. Thanks to everyone that tuned in and called in.

| Hi Mick,
Tried calling out from 7:30 with no luck. Made a dozen or so calls until 7:50, listened til 8:00, tried again. Gave up and shut down at 8:30, (assuming I'd missed the party by that time)
You're just up the road from me too but know by past experience that's not unusual, you can be chatting to someone 50 miles away but not hear someone from less than 10(!)
Like you I had about s6 to s7 RF hash, so didn't want to be "that guy" that keeps transmitting but can't hear due to the noise floor.
Was worried to start with that my antenna wasn't effective. Being disabled I had assistance in putting up my inverted V from someone who has no clue about radio, (read "frustration", but nice of him to help out). But the antenna analyser I'd borrowed showed all good, two local farmers on 27/FM told me impolitely to go away after asking for a radio report, (so can deduce they heard me) and a report from a Ham friend in MK showed that I am getting out.
Just one of those "radio" things I suppose.
Will try again another night.

| Never a truer word said Gary Had nets back in the day that were swinging one week and no one could get out the next! For me that's the "fun" of radio. (Back in the day though we didn't have the internet to confirm everyone tried, you were lucky if a mate gave you a 'tinkle on the telling bone' to say they'd tried. We had 'telling-bones' back then, in the hallway, not very mobile, but didn't stop you using the radio. Hee) 78s Victor _________________ Theory means that we know everything, but nothing works. Hi Fletch, Yes buddy 7.30. I ran a trial net last night which was a bit disappointing, but condition were against it, with me getting S7 of static. I was disappointed with the lack of local operators on (20-30 miles) but although I could hear people calling I couldn't make them out above the static.. 73's Mick | |

| Begun to start doubting my own sanity......
Called out again tonight Mick - nada, nothing, nought (?)
Rig is donated but checks out fine, power out on TX, (checked with a Zetagi wattmeter), picks up on my old Lowe HF225 SWL set, good audio in all modes. Antenna is a homemade inverted v dipole at 25 foot elevation and checked with a MFJ-259B antenna analyser, resonant @ 27.430MHz, 48 ohm impedance, (good enough), swr of 1:1.2.
Awesome......or so I thought?????
I've had a radio report from Milton Keynes, (although everyone gives "5/9" on reports), by a Ham friend.
Utterly lost now? _________________ Theory means that we know everything, but nothing works. Practice means that everything works, but we don't know why. Often, however, theory is closely related to practice. It means nothing works and nobody knows why ...

Back in those days the biggest problem we had was finding an empty chanel! You had to queue up in my house to use the phone Vic, even then my old man would stand over your shoulder telling you you 3 mins was up!!! 73's Gary.

| Hi Gary, Ha, ha! Yeah, some nights it seemed like there was a net on every channel and only stood a chance with a multibander. My parents put a lock on the rotary dialler so you couldn't make calls before 6pm and had an egg timer beside it. Don't think they ever figured out I was tapping numbers out on the receiver hook to defeat the lock! Forgot what a little s*d I was | |

| Ha Ha, I remember those rotary locks it's amazing what's hidden away in the back of your brain!! We used to tap out the numbers in phone boxes Mick from memory I was monumentally bad at it. The first ever type of hacking I think it was called phone freaking or something like that. 73's Gary. | |

| Yeah, you had to have good timing to do it and remember a '0' was ten taps "Phone freaking", haven't heard that phrase for some time! I won't mention the capacitor trick that would fool the exchange into thinking the phone line was still ringing despite your call being connected !?!?! (They'll be an old GPO/BT engineer shuddering at that!) Hee, hee! Good old days _________________ Theory means that we know everything, but nothing works.
