Hi Paul,

Every question is a valid question and none of them are dumb, especially if all we are after is a bit of help. call - Allocate a call sign (Issued) 1f44d

We do have a section in the New Members area of the forum entitled Read First which explains a little about call sign requirements and how they are made up.

That is indeed your call sign from the Charlie Tango group for you to use as freely as you'd like and comes in handy in certain situations.

If you were involved in an international DX (distance) contact either calling or answering it immediately identifies you as being a station from England (the "26" part of the call sign) and that you are a member of the Charlie Tango group and hence the "CT". The last numbers are your membership number for the group in the England category. This gives the DX station some information about you with the Charlie Tango group having international recognition and easily found on a web search thanks to the efforts of the admin keeping the site running. They can then make attempts to QSL or confirm contact with you via your details on the forum or even on the site itself.

As for pronunciation it is entirely up to you and depends on the situation :-

26-CT-4746 could simply be "two-six-Charlie-Tango-four-seven-four-six" or even "twenty-six-Charlie-Tango-forty-seven-forty-six" with any mixture thereof.

If calling on DX situations it can be handy to shorten it to 26CT or "two-six-Charlie-Tango" and if the other station hears you then you can then give the suffix numbers afterwards. This can help a lot if the propagation or 'skip' conditions are fluctuating as although DX contact is exciting fun it can be difficult and that is often part of the thrill.

For local contacts it is entirely up to you with most dropping the 26 part if making contacts in the same country but handy if you make it across the Welsh or Scottish borders where they have different country codes or prefixes. Remember you are still free to use whatever you like on CB radio as ever with many using 'handles' or first names especially amongst friends.

The Charlie Tango call sign though does show pride in your radio interests, membership of the group and indeed it's international membership.

Apologies for the long reply but thought I'd explain it as much as possible.

If you have further questions feel free to post up on the forum but remember you're free to do many things here as well such as posting pictures of your setup, mention of DX activities, or any other radio related item you'd like. It can be a fun place to be with a helpful community.

All the best,
Victor
