Subject: Good Power Supply? Tue Nov 07, 2023 9:30 am
So I’m getting my first home base setup together. Antenna up and working. Radio connected to antenna and working well, powered via my Halfords Power pack on the 12v socket but only 12.7v supply.
So now a power supply. Ive been a mobile user of CB for 42 years but I’ve never had a home base so I’ve no idea about power supplies. I’ve just plugged the radio in the car power supply or power pack via 12v. Never had any issues.
I have done a little research! I have two radio’s. A CRT SS9900 which I believe needs 8amps at 13.8v And a President McKinley, which I think needs 5amps at 13.8v. Correct me if I’m wrong? The Sherman power supplies appear to be recommended frequently and I need one to be future proof, should I take my license and get a big boys HF unit. So Ive also read a 30amp unit it better?
I was looking at this Sharman SM-30II. It drew my attention as it has a 12v socket on the front for if I bring my radio from the car so I can plug it straight in the unit.
What do people think and advise?
Thanks in advance from Rob.

30a i a good choice. Plenty of power for your radio plus plenty more for any ad on's after. It will run an HF set if you want to progress on to Ham as many of us have done after returning to radio.

The Sharman sounds pretty good for the price. It's got noise offset and will easily supply a 100watt rig.
