| I'm trying to ask a question on this forum. How far does a antenna have to be from a wall? I live in a tower block on the 5th floor. Wanna bolt a silver rod to the to the front of it from through the window? Please help. I live in Tottenham London. Got a cobra 148 gtl dx with a tear drop power Mike. Silver eagle too | |

| Hello Keats,
Generally all antennas should be sited in free space away from any objects. However sometimes that just isn't possible. If you are mounting it on a wall with the radiating element above the rest of the block you're in with a chance but if you want to run the entire antenna up against the wall that's far from ideal and I suspect you will run into problems tuning it. If possible try and stand it away from the wall as much as practicable.
I guess the best thing to do is give it a go and see what results you achieve.

| With a tower block unless it's above the roof as far as you can get because it'll capacitively couple to the rebar in the walls of the tower making it a real sod to tune. | |
