I have a President Grant 2 (latest model) attached to a Sirio 2016 antenna with low loss coax. Signal strength and set good but radio picking up a lot of static. Can anyone recommend a noise filter or other method of reducing the static.
Thanks

Hi Baz

What S level is the static/ noise level showing on the meter ? Are you getting the same level across the whole band range of the rig ? Does the NB button make any difference ? A really good thing to try is run the rig from a battery and then turn off the electric @ the fuse board , check the noise levels again , if some improvement then you know it’s something within your own home

Unfortunately that is about par for home base using a vertical in a town location ,some members have more than that , trying the antenna in a different location may help , going horizontal will most definitely help but your local contacts will be down signal wise , there is always a compromise is this hobby 🙁

Watch this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QQzmMOJvFfc

Then try these. https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_osacat=0&_odkw=Torroid+core&_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=Torroid+ferrite+core&_sacat=0

Wrap around all your cables / wires to and from your radio.

Paul.

Have you tried using an external speaker with built-in filters? I use an Icom SP-34 (link below) which has two high-pass and two low-pass filters and it helps to get rid of a lot of noise / static.

try older radios I did and its better less noise and I could here my young bro so its Amstrad 901 and the dnt b40 or the realistic 3000 base radio, give my bro a little kick 100w and he comes even better now and this is why I am buying older multi mode cb and the noise is coming from the new led street lights older better filtered and better made

Never even considered the street lights but thinking about it there is less noise during the day. I was thinking of an external speaker with a noise filter but if it is the street lights maybe that would just be a waste of money.

LED street lights in my street are a terrible source of QRM.

Grants are known for this issue , worth a shot with a few chokes . There some big chunky ones you wrap coax around it . Would place one under antenna and another next to the rig . If / when you run of a power supply do this also after the plug , even remove outer to the flex and get more turns and place in a plastic box etc to protect it .

I only buy ferites from trusted companies to know exactly what your getting not off ebay or Amazon etc, also you have to use the right mix .

Here is the ferites

At home I prefer older rigs better on RX for noise .
