Looking for some advice Hi members I am going to go mobile with my yaesu 450d . So looking for some help . I have connected power lines to battery. And my antenna on roof , But do I still need to run a earth wire to the earth screw at back of th 450d. Every help will be very much appreciated. Many thanks john

Hello John,
The earth on the back of the 450D is an RF earth. You would usually connect it to a ground spike in the garden outside the shack. I wouldn't connect it to the electrical earth of your car that's not what it's for. I'm not an expert in mobile installations by any means but I think for a mobile install it's left unconnected (As is mine at home with no RF problems)

According to the schematic, the ground terminal is DC ground and RF ground. Therefore whatever you decide, it shouldn't make any difference.

k0bg.com is your friend. Look (if you haven't) to bonding. eg Body to bonnet (the hinges are not a good RF conductor) and several places along the exhaust to body (to save re radiating from the pipe)

Those little ground screws on the backs of radios serve no purpose and are only there to keep old timers who don't know better happy. If connecting a ground to that screw solves a problem your problems started long before the radio, at the antenna feedpoint to be exact.
