How would I get the amps up when mobile. The 12v point only kicks out 3/5 amps. Should I run power from battery? Thanks

You should (most of the time) go direct from the battery with as thick a wire as is practical. If you go from a ciggy lighter, you have miles of thin wire which means voltage sag under load. This will warm the wiring up (insulation failure and possible fire) Also, on ssb the audio WILL be unreadable Fuse on the positive as close to the battery as you can (unless you want to test the big bang theory).
I know this can be heavy going but try k0bg.com

Hi. Steven.
DONT. Use vehicle Batt. If u flatten it u won't get home!. I always use a separate Batt in footwell or behind seats. Only use a single Batt if ur on receive or low power. I personally use 2 H/d 135ah in Series giving 24v. then thro' MFj dropper to 13.8v. All modern rigs need 13.8v ideally not dropping below 13.0v to get the best out of Rig. My rig takes 22a on full power but normally only use less than half 10/12a @ 30/40w. I run for several days/nets with this setup without charging. Hope this helps. Good luck. 73's Mike.

Thanks chaps. Was thinking on a separate battery. Looking at doing a net once a month on local high ground.
