Hi John, perfectly serviceable entry level radio that will do everything you need out of the box.
Just remember to bin the mic as the stock one is garbage, put a power mic on it and it will serve you well.

I use the KPO 532 on mine and its superb, always get good audio reports on FM AM & SSB.

Good radio, I have two of them. But both of them have developed the standard fault of the channel selector skipping channels. Consider getting 7900 or AT5555N. They don't cost a lot more and are better in many ways, for example a clarifier which doesn't move in notches and cut out the audio with every adjustment.

Hi John i also have two a v3 and v4 had no problems at all ,mic i have changed cobra m75 and a desk mick delta electronics m2 Amplified desk microphone radio set at 32 on mic gain . enjoy

I've got a 6900n and a cre8900 both good radios happy I bought the 6900, the cre has a hyperactive signal meter so have to roll the RF gain back slightly but yeah I like both... I would like a 9900 but do many reports about the heat sink getting ridiculously hot

I just sold my Magnum 257 and got an SS9900, wanted it for Mobile and it has an extra woomph of 60 watts PEP on SSB. Is the stock mic really that bad, not used it yet gonna install tomorrow, had to do some programming this AM as wanted to ensure 10m,11m, & 12m were all put in properly. Hope to be out High peaking with it Saturday??

9900 are good radios just get warm if used on full power especially on FM , the mic on it is ok it's better than the 6900 mic but you can change it easy enough

I changed the mic on my 6900N from the stock mic to a K-PO DMC 110 p6 with not much difference in audio reports.Then advised to try the K-KO cheap coffin mic and all I can say is what a difference a £15 mic can make,unbelievable to be honest.

I use the stock mic with foam removed on mine and have had many good reports. I think I've got lucky and the cheapy mic just suits my voice. Mic gain on radio set high, but not to maximum. The channel up down buttons on the mic save wear on the radio channel selector too Smile
