New member (Herts)! Hi all a bit of info about me... (Issued)

Hi everyone. I'm new to the Forums and just want to introduce myself.

My name is Derek and I live in Hoddesdon Hertfordshire. I used to be into CB in the 80's in a big way and have recently begun looking at getting back into it again just for a bit of fun. I've been getting into SDR radio quite a bit and will soon be getting my hands on a CB antenna to scan the 11M band on the SDR just to see what activity I can find around here. The idea being if I find some activity I'm going to purchase an 10-11M CB radio and join in.

I live in a 4 floor block of flats on the top floor with access to the roof space which is going to be where I put my antennas at least for the time being.

I'm looking forward to hopefully making some QSO's.

P.S. I found this Forum through watching Fred in the shed's YouTube channel. So, if you see this Fred, cheers m8, you're not a million miles from me so we may well cross paths at some point.

I was listening to a bit of 27.305 chatter yesterday eve on the SDR. Was just about able to make out some of the conversation using my discone scanner antenna. I'm really enjoying myself and can't wait to get a radio.

I didn't ask for a call sign because I have not yet purchased a radio. However thinking about it I guess it doesn't matter. If I have the call sign 1st then I'm all ready to go once I get set up, call sign in hand.

So, yes please, I will formally request a call sign now.

Really glad that you're picking up radio signals and it's all the more exciting when picked up from your own setup even if it's just a SDR and discone antenna. It's a technological jump nowadays and a far cry from the old crystal sets or shortwave receivers some of us started with back in the day.

Doesn't take much for us to want to be shouting back and transmitting on the airwaves too. CB Radio was my introduction to transmitting back when it was still illegal and luckily thanks to discovering Charlie Tango I came back to it, (decades later!), and even went on further to obtain my Amateur Radio licence. I'm thoroughly loving it!!

...and to think, it all started with a CT callsign and the helpful bunch of people involved here.

Yeah the technology is amazing nowadays. I can remember when I had CB in the 80's sitting with the radio listening to all the nonsense that went on then, while writing programs for my Sincair ZX Spectrum! Yes, I am no youngster any more.

I have been bug bitten LOL. I just splashed out on a 6900N V6 and a PSU! 

Can I ask, how is the call sign issued? Will I receive it here or via email or other??

Callsigns are usually issued most days by our wonderful Mr Gary Wilson, (another great volunteer admin here at CT).
