Morning guys, can any body help, I have been happily listening to my little Baofeng, am waiting for my exam in May,
But it has gone deaf !
Picks up CW ,picks up record on local repeater” This is ect”
But no actual voice,
Tested with my small other PMR and received my voice message .
Even bought a Siro 2070h and magmount to try on the car,
To get better reception,
Deleted all my Channels,
Have re input local repeaters.
The strange thing is it stops on channels ,the light comes on,
It waits as if hearing something, but again no voice.
If any bodies can help this newbie,
I would be great full.

Hello and welcome , that sounds most odd so you are saying with your baofeng on vfo and on a repeter output you cant hear nothing ?

do you have the correct CTCSS programmed in like 118.8 etc and the correct +/- shift being aware 2m shifts different to 70cm shift . 2m has a -600 khz shift and 70cm a + 1.6mhz i believe . I know your not licenced so you do not actually need to programe in the repeter shifts in just to listen , you can save the repeter output freqency under a name like GB3WH etc . have you got someone else to transit with a pmr handheld or a local ham ?

I'm no expert with baofengs and dont want to be ... far better less than £80 handhelds out there that worth spending a bit more on . Yaesu ft4xe is around £60 so much easier better audio and better reciever . But best bit Is it's so easy to use .

I have had baofengs but moved on . But good for the price .

If it's picking up the repeater's ident then it hasn't gone deaf. Make sure that you've not got any CTCSS or Tone Squelch enabled for receive. Put it in VFO mode and tune it to the output of the repeater and then listen.

I'm betting you've accidentally enabled something.

Hi guys thanks for all your help,
After much In-depth research( you tube)
I have discovered that there is a common fault with these cheap radios,
In that use of the ear piece can sometimes cause a feed back ,which shorts the small
Speaker ,
Basically it’s dead now,
Will have to wait till pay day,
The Yaesu ft 4 xe has been recommended,
Any other options guys ,
Can manage £100 with out the boss finding out.

Either the FT-4XE or the FT-65E which is £15 more and has 4 programmable buttons on the front which you may find useful.

However if it had suffered the fault you said I'd expect it to lose all audio, not just what is transmitted after a repeater ident. Have you done a full reset of the radio yet?

Hi Northern crusader,
Have done reset multiple times, I have another small pmr and I could pick that up as a test any time,
But it doesn’t any more, it still stops on the right channel, but no audio.
Thanks for the recommendation.
