Subject: New Baofeng UV-82 for £2.84 !!! Tue Jul 18, 2023 7:10 pm
I saw an advert on Facebook for the Temu app. A Baofeng UV-82 (8 watt version) was advertised at £2.84, I downloaded the app had a look for this ‘bargain’ but couldn’t find it.
I had a look on the app a couple of days later and there it was at £2.84 as an “introductory offer”.
Unfortunately the minimum order is a tenner, but as I already have a UV-5RC I bit the bullet and ordered a spare Baofeng mic with it to make the order just over £10. The package arrived today, it took about 10 days.
No expecting anything to work, I unpacked it more in hope than expectation but to my surprise both items work perfectly.
A bonus is that the HT is actually the UV-82HP with three power settings. A power test gave 1.25, 3.5, & 6 watts.
I’ll post again if/when either or both items fail by the end of the month!

Well done there John, an exceptional bargain!
I'm always wary of such bargain apps & sites but looks like you got a good deal with it. The external microphone on a Baofeng makes a huge difference to it's usability especially outdoors so I hope it serves you well.
You'll have to let us know how you get on.
(Just don't do the common mistake of programming via CHIRP without downloading an 'image' from it first!)

No usable PC here Victor so the keypad on the HT took some stick yesterday!
I’ve only programmed in the local repeater 2 metre (GB3DN) and a few 2 metre simplex channels. 70 cm simplex activity here in sleepy North Devon is almost nil. We’re off to Italy in October then Madeira in November so I may smuggle out one of the Baofengs if I can pack them in my cabin bag without the XYL noticing!

Nice one John, I do admire someone who can programme these little radios by hand. It's a skill that'll come in handy for finding whatever repeaters are available when you're on your hols.
I've got an all-singing-all-dancing Ailunce HD1 nowadays but gave up with the DMR side of things and loved that it was also programmable from the front screen and keypad. It has a VFO mode too and along with the external mic does a good job.
Still wasn't the exceptional bargain you obtained though.

Nice one John, I also saw the same offer but was dubious as it looked too good to be true. However I bit the bullet and made the order up to £11:76p with solder, tiewraps, tape etc. My order was dispatched the next day 19th along with a tracking number, on the 22nd I checked on the couriers tracking site and they were still waiting to receive it. Alarm bells were ringing so I checked again on 23rd and it was at their hub, phew.
I received it on the 24th, charged it then programmed the 16 pmr channels in plus a couple of local repeaters. Voila it works well as I tested it with John CT4515 who was only a few miles away at Ditchling Beacon who gave me a good report, Ray CT2290 was also pretty certain he just about received me at Ashdown Forest.
That to me was brilliant as I was in my 'shack' which is in a bedroom, with only the stock rubber ducky.
ps. Also good reports on 70cm repeater contacts.

Glad your UV-82 is working properly as well Tony! Yes, I was extremely dubious, but for the price it was worth taking a chance. Temu seem ok, my XYL had some garden ornaments arrived today, all as per order.
