Subject: Couldn't help myself - Zetagi 203W LED lights Sun Nov 15, 2020 7:09 pm
Hi all,
Digging through my electronic components today I came across some Amber LED's.....mmmm
Well, It was a quiet Sunday afternoon
They were 'water clear' LEDs so I took a bit of 400 grit wet & dry sandpaper to diffuse them up. Quick mount on a board with appropriate resistors, power lead, rubber grommet through a drilled hole, judicious use of hot melt glue and jobs a good'un.
They have the same colour glow as old valve gear which keeps this old git happy.
The last photo doesn't do it justice, the light is much less harsh from them than suggested here.
They colour match my Lowe HF-225 S-meter light perfectly too, so I may have to 'upgrade' my old FT757 S-meter to match. After all, there seems to be a hundred or so of these amber LEDs in the bag - best do something with them!
All the best, Victor

Cheers Paddy
I noticed something else yesterday when I shut the station down....my Sharman switch mode PSU still has fat capacitors on the powerline so that when I turned the power off, that warm orange glow slowly faded away....just like valve gear!
Bit sad but amused me nonetheless!

Ha! Cheers Jeff.
It keeps this old git happy being bathed in a warm orange light. The meter was gifted by a friend so had nothing to lose. Much more readable now too.
If nothing else it'll keep the grandkids amused when we get to see them again. (My Grandson is awestruck with his Grandad's radio room so the more lights the better!)

Are they the whole HF band, or 10/11m only, out of interest? It’s a name I always associated with CB, not AR, that’s all.

The Zetagi 203W is spec'd from 3 - 200MHz Jeff.
It's a little out down the lower end, (160m is beyond spec but do-able), and the same at the upper end but measures 2m with a fair accuracy. They do get knocked due to the CB heritage but quite useable for the money.
The reason I got it as a 'freebie' was due to my Ham friend 'upgrading' to a twin needle affair.
With those sort of specs I'd definitely put them in the AR useable category.
