Subject: Tow Bar Mount or other suggestions Sun Jun 27, 2021 1:01 am
For those full days DXing I'm looking to use something like an Antron 99 when static mobile. I have a tow bar on my car and wondering if there is any way of mounting a base station antenna to it or any other suggestions of using a homebase antenna whilst static mobile.
Regards Mike

Not sure about a mount for the tow bar. But what about one of the ones you drive on. Small steel frame with a pipe welded to it you slide your antenna pole into. When i see one i will update you with a link unless you find one first.

Good idea Alan. They can be found quite quick online if you search 'drive on flagpole base'. One of my friends welded one of those up himself in the late '80s. Thought it was quite original idea at the time.
Mike, just throwing at you the setup I use occasionally, an option I've copied from many others as it's relatively cheap. Cheaper than a new Antron anyways.. A T2LT strung on a 8m telescopic pole. Cost for both items plus 5m of coax with connectors was under £45. I use a couple of ratchet straps from work to tie to fence posts (lucky to have a selection at my fav spot). If no posts around you can get ground spikes and screws for the pole for just a few £ more.
I know not a permanent mount to your vehicle, but this setup takes just a couple of minutes to put up and take down. I could never mount anything on the car.. it's owned by my better half.

That's great info thanks guys, think I will buy one of those you drive onto. I'm fortunate enough to have 2 cars, one of them is an old fiesta that is what I call my weekend hobby car, I use it for fishing, tip runs, mountain biking etc so no issues mounting things to it . Thanks again for the suggestions.
