Subject: Yaesu FT857D Just acquired Sat Aug 14, 2021 4:58 pm
Just got a FT857D from a local Ham with a few accessories. including an auto atu!
Its not been messed about with, but I think I will attempt the Mars Mod on it to get 60m and 11m to be added to the TX Ops. I won't be soldering though, will use Conductive ink to join contacts and remove 2 of the zero ohm resistors
Had one a good while back when they first came out, then replaced with an FT897 its big sister. 100watts HF ,50 watts VHF and 20 watts UHF. this is possibly going to replace the Xiegu G90 , just for the fact of a higher power output

I will Victor, that's why I'm using conductive ink instead of solder as I can wipe it away if leaks over to other contacts, I did it this way with the first 857 and also the 897 I had !

Widebanding done, all open, some simple tests all working fine, now to program some memories, especially all the channelised ones on 5MHz. 2 resistors removed and 2 sets of pads connected with the Conductive Ink. I did find that the Mini ATU 100 out performs the LDG Z100 that it came with, so may pass on the LDG??

Thanks Alan, these pads are so tiny, I don't have a micro soldering iron and my Skills are not that good with an Iron, now give me a mig welder and that's a different story

FT857 is on Ebay now, Just purchased an FT847, and must admit the 847 receive sensitivity is impressive, also has 4 meters on it, albeit 10watts output and a high current drain, just wide banded this one using the same conductive ink!! May take a look at fitting a kit to give 70Mhz more output and less drain on power supply.
Added the 2 ceramic filters for SSB, may take a look at the satellite side of this radio, but not in a hurry to do so? Haha
