Be gently it’s my first post. I have recently found my way back to radio after the best part of 20 years. I’ve bought the said radio but I’m not happy with the standard mic as you seem to have to nearly eat it to be heard ( not that it’s busy around here) so I’ve bought the kpo as a replacement. Is anybody else running the same set up and what rig and mic settings are best as I don’t want to overdrive the modulation. It’s a waste of time getting a radio check in Bournemouth as nobody seems to be on air and I’ve not had time to get to higher ground as yet.
Cheers Macca ct4337.

Not sure on the KPO mic but i think people take the foam out of the standard mic and find it works ok. Well i think it is the same with your radio but somebody will put me right soon.

What I neglected to say it’s the mm 532 power mic I’m sure some people will say it’s not needed but the vids on you tube are looking favourable to me.

Have you managed to turn the Mic gain up in the menu? they normally come set at about Mid-way

The mic gain is set at 30 which should be ample I just don’t like the fact you’ve go to have the mic so close to your mouth. I prefer to have the mic a more comfortable distance away from my face so I don’t splatter all over it if you know what I mean.

You should talk across the mic rather than into it, so if you prefer a comfortable distance, then adjust the mic gain to suit that distance, then you're comfortable, and the mic is doing its job.

Hi Denis Do you find the same on all modes or do you need to turn down the gain on ssb. Also have you had any reports of your modulation sometimes fading away almost like your turning it down whilst speaking.

Hi Dennis Sorry for the late reply. I mentioned the mod fading away as I had reports saying that was happening sometimes during an over but I think I’ve sorted it since your reply. I’m hoping it was the the screw in mic holder on the back making a contact with a solder blob on the board I put a thick washer on the screw to back it off a bit not really had much time to test it yet but fingers crossed it done the trick. I’m off today so going out to play later so I’ll know for sure.
