Auto squelch question
Can anyone advise as the manual is so sparse like most.
Being an old timer I have never had a radio with auto squelch, on the menu the auto squelch can be set from 1 to 9 - The manual squelch range is 1 to 36 - my question is how does the 1 to 9 range on auto squelch tie up with the manual range? Is 1 on auto squelch the least or the largest setting or is 9 the least or largest ? My obvious first thoughts are that 1 is lowest squelch setting, but not is always as it seems with programmed radios. Any explanation or help appreciated Andy 108CT1529 2M0AIV

Hi Andy. Go into your menu and set the auto squelch to 2 ( where mine is set ). Then come out of menu. When you turn the squelch control down it automatically goes to auto. Set it just as ASQ-02 appears. Mine is ok at that level but if your in a noisy location you may have to try 3 or 4. Hope that helps.
Paul.

Thanks Paul - mine works all right out of the box on auto squelch setting number 1 out of the box. What I am trying to find out is how the 1 to 9 correlates with the manual 1 to 33 squelch. There is no indication in the manual as to what the 1 to 9 auto is? I have tried all settings and they all work, what I want to know is how much are they holding the squelch to incoming signals? As potentially if set to wrong setting will mean that you would not recieve Distant signals Andy 108CT1529 2M0AIV

Hi Andy
I have the Anytone At-6666 version of this radio and I just set the Auto Squelch to off and use the manual squelch.
I know this doesn't answer your question. But it does mean I can pick what level I want when I want.

Hi Andy,
I believe the 'auto squelch' option on this radio only affects the AM/FM modes and the manual squelch all modes?
Makes sense really as SSB really isn't somewhere you'd want to be using squelch anyway but would save your ears from AM/FM detector hash should you switch modes forgetting the manual squelch is set to minimum.
As to what 'levels' they switch at your guess would be as good as mine. You could always hook up a calibrated signal generator to find the specific microvolt range but I'll bet it's different for each radio and doesn't step exactly as you'd like or believe.
If the manual squelch control is '1' as minimum and '36' as maximum I'd assume the auto squelch would follow the same convention with '9' as the maximum.
I think the ASQ auto-squelch is just another sales ploy rather than anything really useful......like all those NB/ANL switches that did absolutely nothing on many radios of old!
