Standard All Mode 2m Transceiver Empty
PostSubject: Standard All Mode 2m Transceiver   Standard All Mode 2m Transceiver Icon_minitimeMon Apr 25, 2022 11:40 am

Hi All,

Well, I finally dug out the old Standard 2m All Mode, The C58 TX in SSB is 1 Watt, but it obviously drives a CBP58 matched 25 Watt Linear when you need it, and I also dug out the 144MHz 120 Watt Linear that is driven by the CBP58, I actually forget the make and model of that, I'll have to find it again, ha.

Well, all that remains is testing it still works, and hopefully joining the Shrewsbury radio club net this afternoon on 144.230 USB, which appears to cover all of Shropshire and some of Powys.

Chuffed to finally find it and obviously it was in the last place I would look, and only came across if by chance, doh!

Oh dear, can't find the power lead for 12vDC for it, its an older connection standard, so I've had to order cable and also managed to source the right connectors off eBay, Standard C5800 connectors, so 2m will have to wait, ha.

Update: The Power Connectors turned up, and the In-line fuses, the wire is late...

The antenna I'm going to be using with this radio is a Vertical Dipole, called a DPW-X2, not the usual white stick people put up.

Ha, I'll have to dig out the Icom IC-24G for a few pictures, doesn't even have a channel selector or VFO, just a thumb wheel security code that corresponds with an unrelated frequency, plus a crib sheet printed and stuck on the TRX to actually be able to use it.

Planning to use that on Packet, ha.

Update:  As promised...

Standard All Mode 2m Transceiver 27929310Standard All Mode 2m Transceiver 27927410Standard All Mode 2m Transceiver 27925710

Notice there's no VFO, just a set of wheels to select a channel, and these bear no relation to the frequency or even the RSGB Convention Codes for the channelised section of the 2 metre band.

More to be revealed later...

So, here's what is printed on a bit of paper stuck to the top of the IC-24G...

Standard All Mode 2m Transceiver 27929410Standard All Mode 2m Transceiver 27930510Standard All Mode 2m Transceiver 27925310

So its currently tuned to 145.800 MHz, with a channelised FM spacing of 25KHz to interfere with modern 12.5KHz spacing such as the RV63 Repeater Output at 145.7875 MHz, and the All Mode Amateur Satellites Bandwidth above 145.806 MHz.

I should be dead popular.

Actually the Local Radio Club, SARS, has asked if I can donate it as a training tool, to show the effect of using older FM Radios on modern allocated bandwidth, so this is probably what I'll be doing, as I'm not a spectrum vandal.

I can't even remember when or where I bought it now, it was before June 2004, that's about all I remember.

However, my QTH was IO82OR before then.

Well, I could be persuaded to part with it, did you live down Underdale Road in the past?  I remember buying some gear from someone down that way at some point, but I thought it was just HF Equipment.

BTW, I have a Sysop in the London area desperate for me to establish a VHF Packet Node in Shrewsbury, I only wanted to enquire about a User Account over 40m NVIS, as there's nothing here locally, but this guy is quite persuasive, ha.

Yup, caps do deteriorate, still waiting for some wire to make up the power lead, but will slowly increase the voltage to 13.8vDC when I eventually put power to the C58.

However, just bought a good condition Yaesu FT-480R 2m 30 Watt SSB All Mode on eBay, just awaiting delivery, so will now have options... for my 120 Watt 144MHz Linear... only a manuafacturer name 'SOTA', no model number... I've since found SOTA documentation that suggests they built two models a 35 Watt, and a 100 Watt, but the advert has an older looking model for these, I have used this in the past and it showed 120 Watt on the Power Meter.

I'll likely run no more than 60 to 80 Watts maximum anyway, maybe reduce the drive and operate just enough to be heard 59 is all, I don't like to stress old kit.
