Icom IC-24G Empty

Ok, thought this 2 metre FM radio would be condemned at the local radio club calibration night, but unusually this radio built in 1981 to 1990, its within specification both TX and RX.

For some reason its 0.5 Watt low power and 5 Watt high power (ts supposed to be 1 Watt and 10 Watts, but who cares?), so I'm now tempted to use it for Packet Radio, since the Sysop I contacted that runs a 40 metre Station, got very enthusiastic when I asked about having an account, and started talking about establishing a local Node on 2 metres, linked to him on 40 metres.

He'd have to provide some support for that, as I've only ever been an End User in the past, and have no clue was becoming a Node might entail.

I'd have to 'secretly' erect another white stick I have here, or invest in a vertical dipole, but maybe Packet (AX25) will be re-established in Shrewsbury.
