Having a bash at some CW while the CQ WW CW contest is on.

I can can do a bit of CW but really I'm useless at it.

So installed N1MM Logger and got it working with the IC7300 with just the USB cable.
Also installed CW Decoder, this program allows easier copy of CW especially the fast stuff
in the contest, it's not foolproof but helps.

Anyway, having a go at single band, 40metres to be precise, search and pounce with N1MM Logger.
Got a hand full of contacts this morning, best out to east coast of states and Bahamas.

Once I have finished will post up contacts, most likely tomorrow.

Here are the CW contacts during the CQ WW CW Contest.
Single OP, single band, 40metres low power, 100watts, assisted with cluster and decoder.

Contests can be a good way to work up your CW skills.
Congrats on good log.

Congrats on good log.

Thank you.

At the end I was getting callsigns between 25 to 30wpm without the decoder help.

Going to practice a lot more and get a bit more proficient at CW, something I have meant to do
for a while.

Well done you! That's pretty good going.
Please can you say what speeds you were sending and what you were receiving at, on average?

I'm learning morse but some health issues have slowed progress, however I'm at the stage where I can copy bits of QSOs and the sense of achievement after the boring learning stage, is a real buzz!

For learners like me, there is a Slow Morse Club group on Facebook and they often hang around 7.035MHz on the 40m band.

Ivy Mike, congrats and keep up the good work! 73

Thank you.

Sending at 28wpm N1MM keying the IC 7300, Most stations are up near 30wpm on receive.
Surprising how many didn't get my call correct so had to repeat, I did the same quite often but did have the help of CW Decoder which works well on moderate to strong signals. Near the end of my session I could get some calls without the decoder but will need a lot more practice.

If you want to practice contest style try Morse Runner, It's part of N1MM or download as a stand alone app.

Have had 18 confirmed on LOTW so got some correct. Very Happy

Log sent in, see if any were no contact. Very Happy

Thanks for the reply and the tip re Morse Runner, I'll check it out.

28wpm, that's fast! I'll be happy if I get to 12 and then 20!

Hopefully you won't have too many "no contacts"!

Best 73,
Ace
