I think they all can be. What band do you want ?. A lot of radio/money to use for just 11m band. It's a cut down version of the DX10. I have the DX10 and a m8 got the 710 a week or so ago. We went through all the specs and the 710 has a lot less filtering and some other bits but still a good radio.

The modification is not publicly known atm only an American company is claiming they can do it,
You can do one modification by pressing a few buttons that get's you on 27mhz but it puts it in service mode and you have no scope, The DX10 is more expensive you would expect it to be better, I want it for 11mtr not really expensive last time round i bought the 7600 but i might take my ticket this time round you can do it all online now :-).

Looking online they only show the temp mod but i think it won't be long before the permanent mod is found. Go for your ticket it was the best thing i have done. 155 countries and 32k contacts in just over 2 years ??. If i want to use 11m i plug one of my Lincolns in.

It's a cut down version of the dx10. You won't notice the things unless you have used the 10. My m8 is happy with his and getting to find his way round it without asking me. He asked me some things but it works different on the 10 like changing mode the 10 can do it from the screen but on the 710 you need the button.

Taken from the net.
Quote :
I have heard a store called hamradio.com sells the FT-710 and they offer MARS mod at an extra cost, and it's possible via a solder bridge and a radio reset via specific buttons. (Who knows if their claims are really true?) - to this day there's no info or proof anywhere online about the mod being a possibility. Owners I have spoken to don't seem to know either. I have also heard in the US and Canada - Yaesu will send you the MARS mod info IF you produce your "MARS Licence" - again no truth or facts to any of the above claims. If you are in Europe and the UK etc then it's also different (apparently)? What I can't understand is - why haven't we seen any info of it being a possibility or not? Surely it can't be that difficult if indeed it's as simple as a solder bridge like the FTDX10. But as if the December 1 2022 - it remains a mystery with no proof.
Another quote from the same article
Quote :
I am still looking. So far, nothing. But I did have HRO mod mine when i bought it. The firmware menu also states MARS/CAP and it work on MARS frequencies.
So it is possible but not leaked it's only a matter of time.

yes this radio can be expanded to transmit out of the amateur bands. but check it may terminate your warranty and the PA output transistors are not designed to tx outside the amateur bands. if you blow the outputs these little beauties they are very expensive to repair. bit of advice buy the radio and get a amateur licence and work the world.Ā when 11m band is closed there will be a ham band with some DX. i got AustraliaĀ xmas day on 15 mtrs on an icom 705 10 watts. 4 element yagi. its the antenna not the radio what's important.

Often misused these days towards someone who merely voices an alternate opinion.

Got it. Not going to post the mod as it looks like you could screw the radio up very easily and i can do fine solder work. Wouldn't want to be responsible and at the end of the day there is no need for it.
