walking down the garden this afternoon i looked back at the silver rod and thought im sure that ant should be higher than that, so looking more closely i noticed that the first section (not including the one with the fixing plate)had dropped all the way down and both jubilee clips were nearly touching, so quickly out with the ladder and armed with a suitable screwdriver i got the section back into the right place with the felt tip mark and on with the radio and swr'd it and all ok that is something i will have to keep an eye on in case it does it again there has been a lot of windy days here recently that might have something to do with it

Hope it's OK. I have a silver rod 1/2 wave . Used to have one back in the day never had any trouble whith weather, but where I live now when it's windy it is very bad,I am going to put it on the house on the weekend about 20 feet which is 12 feet higher than it currently is. Let's hope it survives.

You could strengthen the joint further by putting a self tapping screw through just under the jubilee clip. A friend fixed theirs up like that 35 years ago and it's still up now, never been taken down.

I always taped each joint on that type of aerial that might help. Will also stop any water getting in and corroding any coil at the bottom.
