Subject: Yaesu FT450 ALC Fri May 05, 2023 10:31 pm
Am possibly having a few issues with my ALC in FT8, from what I have read the ALC meter should barely flicker. I am only able to get my meter reading 1 bar below the AGC limit, I spent all afternoon today trying to get it down, but as soon as I lower it any more the transmit cuts out. Since changing the gain, my hit rate has shot back up to the levels I was getting with my KN 990 SDR radio. It is possible my setting were splattering my signal somewhat.
Any suggestions or clarification on the ALC settings would help me.

Solved the issue-it seems my PC's sound card is too powerful, switching to a USB sound card has lowered my ALC a couple of notches.
Further research indicates the ALC reading on the FT450 works differently to most radios, you want the reading to be a notch below the indicator on the ALC readout.
