There was indeed a 40m net being held a little while back now and I know that my own low power efforts didn't see me personally making contact but many others did. I'm not sure if the activity just fizzled out as I haven't heard anything about it more recently.
I think it started out on a Saturday but then moved to a Sunday where I find myself busy with family activities so not sure what happened in the end.
Hopefully those who were involved with ready contact might be able to enlighten us.

Hi John
We certainly did have a try with a CT 40m but interG conditions were very poor @ the time
We could try again as interG atm is much more promising , maybe try one evening ? This Thursday around 7pm would be good for me ?
Would be great if we could get it off the ground again
Craig

Sounds good Craig, Thursday is a good evening for me as the XYL is at Bingo, so I’ve got the house to myself!
Was it really conditions though or was it because so many of the computer buffs seem so reluctant to key a mic?
I suppose we’ll never find out…

Hey John. Really don't think it was the latter. Some of us grouped together in the forum online chat section when we tried to make it happen. Sometimes a few QSOs were made, other times none of us could hear anyone of our group. I fizzled away from it because of that and also quite often had other things I had to do, work etc.
I don't mind trying again, though 40m is my most compromised permanently setup antenna so really need conditions to be just right if I am to be heard.

Oof! That was a bit ungentlemanly below the belt there John. (Right in the old crown jewels!)
I know my own efforts saw me self repairing/restoring my first HF rig (ancient FT757gx) to involve myself on the bands along with untangling various lengths of electric lawnmower lead to construct antennas. Then due to disability my fantastic wife (who's no spring-chook herself) clambered up that loft on my behalf under careful instruction to string it all up for me as a doublet with a home constructed ATU seeing this matching to all the HF bands including 40m. I remember too well the initial voice contacts I had berating my efforts with everything from "Come back when you're not a 'beginner'", to "Can't hear an M7 transmission" and even opposite ends of the scale with "Are you sure you're on 10 Watts? I can hear you at Hack Green!!"
Even after all that I took my best stab at the net and as Craig (Sydthecat) already pointed out conditions weren't always favourable.
Anyway, I soon found my 'place' with the exploration of digital modes and have been filling my log book ever since. Not once has a decode come back with "I've had my licence since 19-clickety-click with a proper ses-tif-icate from City & Guilds London" either.
To think I just bought a mic hanger for my new HF rig with plans to progress up to Intermediate too. (Still gonna. )
There was me looking forward to another stab at a 40m CT net as well.
I wasn't hoping for 'yellow-sandy-beaches' type of 'propagation' but hearing the voice of a fellow CT member would've or should've been a thrill.
That may have been a bit of a quip there John but it did feel like the typical, "Nah-nah-nah I'm just joshing wiv you mate."

Victor.. You seem a bit confused about my point! It wasn’t a dig at newcomers to the hobby, who I always welcome and I make a point of answering a call by a M7 to congratulate him/her on getting their ticket. There’s a hell of a lot M0s through to G3s that also seem reluctant to pick up a mic! I’m all for whatever floats your boat in the hobby unless it adversely affects the part of it that I enjoy, which of course digital modes do by steering the hobby away from SSB to the easy option to make contacts and consequently also totally belittling the awards system, particularly the DXCC!

Can someone please post a + or - frequency on Thursday, I know you’ll all find it hard to believe but chatbox isn’t for me! Failing that I’ll try turning that large knob on the front of my radio…

I'm up for it Alan and if anything it was fun to use the chatbox for it's intended purpose last time.
Here's hoping some of us get through. (Be nice to add you to the log mate on top of the FT8 contacts.) The whole idea of a CT net thrills me no end!
Apologies for appearing a bit defensive there John but it was meant to be a jovial retort to your quip. This Thursday I shall put down me mouse and pick up that mic for a change.
We did post up the frequency in use on the Net posting last time just using the chatbox for almost 'live' interaction as some of us weren't getting through. I'm certain we'll make sure to do the same again. Be good to see if any others would wish to join in as well, the more the merrier.

John What i ment by the chat box was when somebody kicks of the net on a clear frequency post it in the box rather than posting it in a thread it's quicker. You don't have to join in the chat just watch out on it for the frequency to use. Did that make any sense to anybody lol.

Ha! Ha! You always make sense to me Alan mate, even if you don't to everyone else.
I shall be on 7.180 tomorrow and twiddle that big knob on the radio if all else fails. (I've given orders to the missus to make sure the QRM inducing washing machine is off too!!)

QRM from the house narr got a plan if that happens. I have a big 100+amp battery to power my diesel heater in the winter but i also gave a point by my psu connected to it just in case of a power cut. If Linda put the washer on and i got QRM i would sneak in the front door and hit the trip on the fuse box. Linda looks like we have a power cut lol.

I am certainly up for this, my 40m reception isn't brilliant, but will give it a go. Hopefully it will be a gentle introduction to the world of voice, before I dive into the shark pool.

Lot of fading on the band there Mark, Got Craig 5/9+ one minute then drops off the next.
Band not in the greatest of conditions but chuffed it gave me the opportunity of contact.
