The particular server PSU I used I dug out of a skip for free, but if you are going to buy they cost very little on a well known auction site. I see some on there now for under £6.
I have checked the manual for your Alan 48 Pro and its spec is 12.6V ±10%, so well within the 12.0 to 12.2V the server PSU would output without any further mods inside it.
It's not for everyone, so you might not be comfortable modding or using, but it is a very cheap option which works and has done me good service.

Good luck Greg, best thing you will ever do, read every question at least twice, you have loads of time, don't stress and if not sure on a question flag it and come back to it.... Most the questions are what you will have looked at, at some point and quite a few out of 4 answers there are 2 it could be and 2 that are no where near the answer and a few that are common sense.... Again good luck and post how you got on, take around a week to get your call sign and you can pick one of your own, if you look on "Essex ham" Web site they have call sign checker to see if the call sign you pick is all ready taken....
