Hi Chris,

Gave up on that Baofeng pretty quick didn't you? Wink

If you get a Leixan, you'll also have to program it.....

....same with a Retevis, Wouxun, Yeasu, Icom, etc. etc.

After all, the radio doesn't know where you live or what repeaters you want to hit. Very Happy

Some sellers will offer you a radio pre-programmed but they'll usually charge extra and you have to let them know what you want it programmed for in the first place. I have seen radios apparently programmed with every UK repeater but then you're storing loads of repeaters you'll never use and have to scroll past them all, (or remember what channel your repeater is on!)

Did you check out that Miklor site I mentioned?
It did help me out a lot, plus a bit of dedicated time playing with the radio until I got it right. Some things are worth persevering with Wink

No worries Chris.
I'm always 'window shopping' but luckily the wife controls the purse strings! Very Happy
(Was quite impressed with the Retevis R95.)

Be careful when you put that antenna up mate, there's a reason we had that ladder nonsense on the Foundation training Wink

The first thing I learned. Via many channels on YouTube and lots of reading on how to manually programme a UV5R. It is possible using frequency step. But confusing and hard work as there's no manual. I found that a free download of the software known as Chirp and a data cable sufficed. I now can pick up my local repeaters and tune into PMR 446. Its a simple as clicking and saving

I've not looked at chirp although I have the data lead.
I decided to save PMR channels 1-16 and the ISS on 17 for now on both UV5R's.

I have some frequencies used for business and repeaters heard written down to save. And also a list from a local ham.
So I'm going to add them .
It's quite easy but a bit of a laborious task.

See here to manually save if it helps.
