Well done both! I didn't manage to get back to him today sadly. I did manage a QSO with him a few days ago on 12m which I was over the moon about but... it doesn't count for here

EC6FK Balearic Is 1point (29)
Not heard any of the usual very short Es/Tropo, with no inter G or Benelux stations so far the summer.

John, I've heard a little inter G the last few days, but lasted an extremely short amount time when it happened. Failed to get northern England or Scotland because they disappeared in a flash. Ireland and N. Ireland came through to here early morning yesterday, I managed the one Ireland contact then they all disappeared within minutes after.

Odd one, the band seemed completely dead! A steady QSO with no fading for about 5 minutes with 5/3 & 5/5 reports. DXMaps have logged it as Tropo, but I wouldn’t have thought that pressure was high enough…

Great you've managed to make one on the band John. Lots of stations from Ireland coming through on 11m, but nothing heard this way on 10m. Tried putting calls out to see if I could get some close E skip bite from that direction, but not a sausage. Did the same earlier today when it seemed dead and got a couple of German stations came back to me including a mobile driving on the autobahn, but zilch since.

Cheers Neal. Bands quiet here now. The best conditions of the year will be from 21st - 28th June, as we’re off to Malta for a week, so nailed on it’ll good conditions while I’m abroad

I haven't logged Malta for this challenge yet, so if you want to take a little rig with you...
Just managed to get a Northern Ireland contact, MI0ADX. I spoke with him soon after passing last year, so was good to catch up for a second QSO. Sadly the short E skip cut the convo short quite quickly and all went dead again after.

I totally agree with you there John in that Neal has done extremely well with his setup.
In fact you all have, so well done all!
I'm afraid that despite fixing my radio for 10m I've realised why I don't like fishing.....(casting out my call sign with no response. ), so haven't been trying hard enough. However, thanks to at least entering I did find another fault with my old radio and now bagging some FT8 action for the first time up there.
All good in my book.
....and I'll still give a shout once in a while, this years one point so far being better than last years "nil point"!

I very rarely call CQ when I’m chasing the countries via Es, as it tends to be the run of the mill Spanish, Portuguese, French, Germans or Italians coming back to me! So I try to break any pileups with 99% luck and 1% skill.
I’m afraid I have no interest in any mode that involves using a computer, being old school I cannot understand what possible pleasure can be derived from it, but each to their own
It’s very difficult to compete with the big boys with their beams on SSB, but I’m really enjoying being ‘beamless’ this time round, probably because there’s no peer pressure with chasing the DXCC like in the 80s when quite a few of us ex 11 Metre pirates all got our A license around the same time
Only a suggestion, but has anyone ever tried or thought about trying to get a informal CT net on 40 Metres? I’m out on a limb CT wise here in Barnstaple & it would be good to hear some group members on the ham bands.

Ha! Ha! Yes, does seem very much luck trying to bust the pileups John and afraid I ain't been getting any, not on SSB anyway(!)
I gave digi-modes a go a while back and wasn't initially impressed but now can see the level playing field it allows operators to enjoy and very much got into it. Been breaking Europe left and right with it all on CQ's today on 10m.
As for a CT net there have been some informal/ad-hoc past ones where some enjoyed contact but last time I tried I heard several CT operators but didn't get back to them. (40m was noisy that day.)
Think it might be time to try another again, be great to put some voices to people.
